As PDM threatened VoNC and Imran Khan was preparing his trip for Russia, Gen Bajwa went on a mysterious trip 18th-22nd Feb. What was he up to ? A thread🧵
The only official part of the trip was the Bajwa met some EU officials in Belgium on 18th Feb: dawn.com/news/1675738
It looked like a strange visit considering he did not visit the Nato head quarters in Brussels. Neither did he visit the Munich Security Conference that was held not too far away on the same days (18-20 Feb) and is important for Afg policy.
Bajwa's mind was elsewhere and he popped up in different places in undisclosed unofficial visits.
The trip was so mysterious that some people said that it was a strange trip.
Now whereas Bajwa's official Gulfstream jet remained parked in Belgium, Bajwa was seen in other countries.
So what was Bajwa up to? It was almost as if the COAS went underground while regime change was in motion. Firstly, there was chatter on twitter that he was making private visits to Luxembourg and Netherlands. Marianna Babar was one of the first to raise this on twitter.
Then, there were reports that Bajwa was in London. Marianna Babar was again one of the first to raise this on twitter.
If the London trip did happen, it is super secret as Bajwa's official jet reportedly stayed parked in Belgium which implies he might have taken a different private jet to the UK!
Now this is where things become even more interesting. Multiple sources claimed that Bajwa made a secret trip to London for two days & stayed at the swanky Grosvenor House on 20th Feb. The claim was made by The Print (source: theprint.in/diplomacy/eu-s…).
The London visit was discussed by another journalist Naji on youtube.
There are many nice & fancy hotels in London but Grosvenor’s location is interesting: 4 min walk from Avenfield Apartments (where Nawaz Sharif resides)!
Although PMLN officially denied that NS met Bajwa, journalist Naji did point out that phones of NS's close aides in London were off on 20th Feb. ISPR was also unusually evasive about Bajwa's whereabouts & activities.
I'm sure the general just wanted to have a nice walk in Hyde park after arriving on private jet from Brussels to London but some questions do arise.
Did a serving COAS meet absconder Nawaz Sharif in Feb? That's already a violation of the constitution...
Also note that IK went on record to say Nawaz Sharif had meetings with H. Haqqani including one on 3rd March: "He [Nawaz] was frequently holding meetings with individuals who are against the military and held the last meeting with Husain Haqqani on March 3"
In view of the #haqqanibajwafiles story by @worqas, one wonders whether Husain Haqqani was actually present in London on 3rd March or earlier on 20th Feb (when Bajwa was also reportedly there)? These are natural questions.
Here’s a relevant excerpt of the Print article.
In the excerpt, one might also notice a popular gentleman's name as accompanying Gen Bajwa in London.
My suspicion regarding H. Haqqani being in Europe around that time seems to be correct. Absar Alam wrote a cryptic tweet on 10th Feb that HH was in Europe and meeting some1 from the estb (Faiz 🤔?). HH did not seem to deny he was in Europe.

It’s a pity that ppl such as Uzair Younus and Fahd Hussain dominate the English medium narrative esp. on @dawn_com. I just read Uzair’s piece on the COAS which is rich on sophistry. (1/n) A thread with some comments.
Instead of comparing IK’s multipolar view and spine vs. B’s inclination to become a US client state, Uzair frames foreign policy as IK’s non cooperation vs B’s cooperation. (2/n)
Instead of stating the mess that the coup has made, Uzair points out how B was meeting businessmen because the economy was not doing “particularly well”. (3/n)
