the type of person researching profit-sharing business models for my own indie work to be produced and deciding the first thing I read is gonna be a 45-page academic article tracing profit-sharing contracts in hollywood 9dh9aq34k;dvqaw typical of me
someday I’ll write up a system of annotating academic texts as you’re reading it and doing live data visualization, but for concepts in the margins, so you can keep track of what you read, and find diagrams a lot faster than blocks of text #AuDHD
the first rule of close reading is to not use a highlighter, because highlighting is passive and doesn’t digest info; underlining, circling, drawing boxes etc. gets you to semantically engage the material more
also it is far too easy to highlight a whole-ass paragraph, which is completely useless to you when you’re flipping back through the text to get your main points sorted
if you’re like “wow it’s really a lot more annoying to underline a long passage, I keep accidentally striking things out”
yes that is the whole point
if you are attempting to underline the whole passage, either box it with an annotation, or extract only the one line you need

ok but my hot take is that GLASS ONION wasn’t a whodunnit at all, but a thriller where the key tension driving the plot is when chekhov’s mona lisa encasement is finally gonna pay off
mostly I spent the entire movie thinking, “when is the encasement going to backfire? when is that tiny rock of klear going to show up again?”
it’s less a whodunnit and more a heist movie
because like ok… so the thing is, KNIVES OUT is a classic whodunnit, because it opens with… something having been done!
but GLASS ONION has no such opening. instead, it follows the classic *heist* structure, of opening by gathering individuals for a mission
me looking at the phlegm I’m coughing up with both disgust and scientific fascination
my senior color tech ass like “hm, interesting, an opaque medium gray with a green undertone, still not back to normal color of clear with just a hint of a hansa yellow undertone”
and of course my color tech ass is like “well, I need a standard to match against, of course. let me look up a snot color chart”
my bf has been very gentle with me like “no baby, you just need special care that’s all” and it makes me feel (in a good way) like when y’all post photos of your rescue dogs like “this is waffles, he was abused and [some quirk] but he is very sweet and we love him”
he even came over to make sure I was safe and put aloe vera on my injuries 😔 my ex would just insult me and say I only did it for attention like a teenager (when it was more that I was self-harming on a regular basis bc he would belittle me and yell at me all the time)
I don’t really like to talk about my ex on main because he’s previously verbally attacked me for “making him look bad” on twitter and has stalked me by waiting for me to return at my house when I said on twitter that I had gone out, but, well, better to not bottle it in I guess
great, my boyfriend tested positive for COVID and now I'm going to be beating myself up all day for not kicking him out and taking care of myself like I fucking should have. I SHOULD JUST BE ALONE ALWAYS
I SHOULD NEVERE ASKM FOR HELP
I ISHOULD ALWYAS BE ALNE
I SHOULD FUCKING NEVER ASK FOR ANY FUCKING HELP OR CARE IT ALWAYS BACKFIRSE
IT'S MY FAULT IT"S ALWAYS MY FAULT IT"AS ALWAYS MY FUHADGYUNH IALWAYS MY FAULT ALFWAAY WLWYF
y’all if we get another round of sinophobic hate, I am expecting every single one of you with “stop asian hate” (worst wording ever) in your names and bios to not share footage and to instead simply either intervene when you see it happen, or provide support after it happens.
I do not need to see your outrage. I do not need to see your “omg how could this happen????” concern (spoiler: 150+ years of racist policy is how). I do not need to see my people attacked and then talked about like we’re hypothetical creatures. I only need you to do real action
