🚨 | Alok Sharma been given a knighthood. He has helped blow up the UK’s energy infrastructure.

💥 This adding to the woes of households as energy bills this year have gone through the roof.

💷 We have seen an extra 150bn wealth transfer to energy companies in 2022 vs 2019
While ministers have been blowing up the UKs domestic energy infrastructure we have also moved to a reliance on foreign gas.

The result high energy prices.

And remember three quarters of the current gas price increase happened before the Ukraine war.

🚨 | The number of patients in critical care beds in England is the highest now apart from winter 20/21 looking at the past 6 years

💥 It's not Covid behind this with about 1%, or 41 patients in critical care predominantly due to Covid much lower than the Jan 21 peak of ~ 3,816 Image
We have around 165 patients in critical care with Covid but the main reason for admission is something else. The virus may or may not be a factor for the main reason.

Around 267 patients are in critical care with Flu.

But the majority, around 2,895 are not in with Covid or Flu. Image
We had a higher percentage of critical care beds occupied pre-pandemic than generally so far this 2022/23 winter but there were also fewer beds then.

In the 7 days to 25 Dec around 82.1% of adult critical care beds were occupied

The winter % occupancy peak was 87.4% in 17/18

Australia comfortable not introducing negative test requirements for arrivals from China because the main variant authorities believed was circulating in that country had already spread throughout Australia in July.

🚨 | UK agreed on a deal to import more gas from the USA, but reliance on imports is why energy prices are so high.

💥 UK’s reliance on gas to generate electricity has gone from 0.6% in 1986 to 40% in 2021

statsjamie.co.uk/high-energy-pr…
Back in 1986, two-thirds of UK electricity generation came from coal, 20% from nuclear, 10% from oil, & 0.6% from gas. Fast forward to 2021 and the clamor for cleaner energy, just 2% of electricity generation came from coal, 40% from gas, 38% from renewables, and 15% from nuclear Image
In 2021 the UK used more imported gas than domestically produced for the first time ever

Around 30% of the total UK gas supply is used to generate electricity, with 37% used domestically to heat homes and the remaining 33% across industry and services. Image
