What: Buy, sell, and trade digital assets on the @bitcoin network. Originally created as a platform for DeFi products which became home for a rich NFT culture including @SpellsofGenesis, @pepe__wtf, and @FAKERARES_XCP.
What: Buy, sell, and trade digital assets on @dogecoin. This fork of @CounterpartyXCP began as an experiment for creators in 2014 and quickly faded in 2015, only to be revived by the Dogeparty Foundation in 2021.
Who: Ascribe on Bitcoin
When: 2014-2018
What: A platform built on Bitcoin as a place for artists to monetize their work through blockchain technology. After the platform was shut down in 2018 all 31,900 tokens were lost.
What: A digital identity protocol that succeeded @namecoin_ids from 2012 and predated @ensdomains from 2017. This early ETH project had a built-in marketplace for buying, selling, and trading IDs. Which may be the first on ETH.
What: First token project on @CounterpartyXCP which is also the first Gaming NFT(s) in blockchain history. Cards were sold via an ICO and a native marketplace was deployed later to facilitate trading.
What: Very early Ethereum NFT pixelated "ad board" pre-mints tokens and sells directly on website. Primitive marketplace coming nearly 18 months before ERC721 standardization.
Who: Rare Pepes
When: September 2016
What: A decentralized art/meme community forms towards the end of 2016 via a Telegram chat. After some time @wasthatawolf realizes the project needed a wallet and marketplace, deploying RarePepeWallet shortly after.
What: First collective art project on Ethereum has artists submit work and is voted on by community. NFTs were sold through "vending machines" that were all listed on the website.
What: Native 0% fee marketplace deployed with 10k NFT contract. V1 exploit is found and V2 NFTs are airdropped to holders with patched marketplace. Possible first NFT Marketplace bidding system w/ images.
What: Early Generative NFT project featuring nameable cats and a proof-of-work style mint. Marketplace features the first bonding curve (Genesis MoonCats increase in 0.3 ETH increments) and similar CryptoPunks bidding system.
What: A fork of @CounterpartyXCP, Monaparty is a token creation platform focused on Japanese themed art to buy, sell, and transfer. The most popular collection MonaCard is closing in on 7,000 unique tokens.
What: Breedable NFT Kitties who became the most popular collection in 2017 and iconic brand today. Native marketplace curated a simple interface and user-friendly appearance.
What: May be the first NFT Marketplace to allow NFT purchases with USD. Pioneered NFT auction system and onboarded @beeple in 2020. Acquired by @Gemini in 2019.
What: First NFT Marketplace to utilize native token ($RARI) and offer incentives for buying and selling on its platform. Has a DAO and has integrated @Solana, @Tezos, @0xPolygon, and @Immutable.
What: Native marketplace launches for a sports NFT collection on Flow. Sleek and simple user interface onboards thousands and is a precursor to the NFT bull-run. Can sort moments by multiple categories.
What: First protocol for NFT-backed index funds, bringing traditional finance properties to the world of NFTs and creating a true DeFi x NFT product. Issue ERC20 tokens against a pool of ERC721s.
What: First dedicated Music NFT marketplace that is solely dedicated to the emerging world of tokenized music. First category specific marketplace since Art NFT platforms like Super Rare, KnownOrigin, and Foundation.
What: Originally a tool application for the now failed XTZ NFT Marketplace Hicetnunc (HEN) is now the largest Marketplace on Tezos, the place for #CleanNFTs and incredible art.
What: Largest NFT Marketplace on Solana, launched 7 months after the first NFT project on SOL @kreechures. Raised $130M in 2022 and has integrated @0xPolygon.
What: NFT Marketplace created to support the emerging NFT Photography space. Since creation has added Digital Art to the platform and opened up a physical storefront in LA.
What: Fully on-chain AMM NFT Marketplace that offers 0.5% marketplace fee and 0% creator royalties. Has released its own governance token SUDO and NFT collection XMON.

What: The "Bloomberg Terminal" for NFTs built for traders. Raised $11M round led by @paradigm. Three incentivized rounds of variety boxes of $BLUR tokens to be airdropped in January. Built-in Aggregator from launch.

Blockchains are Countries: A mental model for understanding crypto economies

First, let's define some common terms that you may see when Bitcoin builders are referring to their projects.
They may sound the same but there are some slight differences.
It's important to at least understand that they refer to different layers of the tech stack.
BIP: Bitcoin Improvement Proposal
Protocol: Basic sets of rules that allow data to be shared between computers
Standard: Set of rules, conditions, and functions that dictate how a token works
Meta-Protocol: L2 overlay protocol that defines a method for creating data structure
