There remains $1.4 billion (for both 2022 and 2023) needed to balance the budgets for this and last year due to COVID costs and Tory wants the feds and province to kick in as promised.
The proposed property tax increase for 2023 will be 5.5 per cent, below Toronto’s 6.6 per cent rate of inflation, Tory says. He wishes it could be lower.
Tory said the additional 1.5 per cent increase to the City Building Find levy on top of the property tax increase is in keeping with his promise not to increase prop taxes above inflation bc they are two separate things.
Tory very salty about the idea of parking lot levies pointing to two past reports. Calls raising it now theatrics and massively complicated to implement.

Last week we got an unusual preview of the budget starting with a nearly $50M increase in the police budget in part going to hiring 200 more officers: thestar.com/news/city_hall…
I am at the sentencing decision for Jacob Hoggard this morning. Everyone is in court now. As always, difficult content. Resources are available here: ontario.ca/page/sexual-vi…
Justice Gillian Roberts will be reading part of her written reasons. Hoggard hugged and kissed his wife before sitting down in court. She is, as she has been throughout, sitting in court.
"It was that fangirl moment," she said when Hoggard gave his number to her dad and gave them tickets and backstage passes to an upcoming show. (The court heard earlier the band would often give out tickets/passes in this way).
The jury is seeing photos of the girl (now in her early twenties) and her family with Hoggard along with photos of ticket stubs.
She explains what backstage passes were -- it let them back behind that stage, rather than being in the general admission area. It could also let them go back into the dressing room area. Different from VIP tickets or meet and greets, she said.
Two women, one of whom was 15 at the time of the first alleged sexual assault, are expected to testify at the trial of Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard. Here is what the Crown says the jury can expect to hear: thestar.com/news/gta/2022/…
Hoggard is charged with sexual touching of a person under the age of 16 and two counts of sexual assault causing bodily harm. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The allegations date back to 2016.
The Crown's first witness is Dr. Lori Haskell, a psychologist who is giving a mini science lesson to the jury about how trauma and extreme stress affect things like decision-making, memory and reactions.
For those planning to watch the verdict on YouTube, it's absolutely not allowed to take photos/screenshots/recordings of the video. Media has been told not rebroadcast or even embed the livestream.
I will be tweeting (though not exhaustively because the live-stream is so easily available, in a real win for open courts and public information) and you can follow that on here or in the story below, which will be updated through the day: thestar.com/news/gta/2021/…
Here is the YouTube link again. There are already more than 800 people waiting. Starts at 10 am.
