1/ We're excited to open source EGO - A dev framework for building Personal Computers on IC.
Fully built on IC's canisters, EGO enables users to easily own their canisters, similar to running a personal computer. forum.dfinity.org/t/proposal-of-…
@dfinity@dominic_w@JanCamenisch 2/ Why EGO?
Canisters are considered "first-class citizens" on the IC. If end users can have their own canisters, they will receive equivalent rights and capabilities as other programmatic canisters. For now, end users can only use DApps with limited interoperability.
3/ With EGO, end users will create smart contract wallets on their personal canisters and install diverse functionalities, which allows them to expand the functionality and potential use cases of their canisters. For example, transferring native BTC and ETH on the IC.
4/ By building interfaces and DApps together, both end users and developers can benefit from the collaboration and value creation. The goal of this collaboration is to create a more diverse set of functionalities for personal canisters, expanding the potential use cases.
5/ Beta features:
- Upgrade canisters to the latest or a specific version
- Backup and restore canister data
- Interlink with other installed canisters
- Interact with user-owned distributed/decentralized marketplace
6/ Help us improve EGO and spread the word. Together, we can make the IC thrive. Thanks!

@kylelangham Yes, it’s a must-have security practice to segregate accounts for investment and other activities like experiments or airdrop. 1/6
@kylelangham A few points to clarify: 1) the .icp name giveaway by @Astrox_Network & @IcNaming has ended last month; 2) Who’s the team that builds AstroX ME? 👇🏽
@kylelangham@IcNaming 3) More on ME:
ME & II are both identity providers, and the process of creating login devices is the same - a public key is created to communicate with IC and the private key is stored in the device user controls. ME does NOT control the user’s private key. 3/6
