Newspaper Estado, where I was the 1st student to ever write on op-page & had a column - dishonored decent journalism by calling protesters "golpistas" (coup plotters) when casually saying "a thousand of them" were sent to prison & given "vaccination against covid & a hygiene kit"

I'll give u on this thread a few revealing about newspaper O Estado, or Estadão - big Estado, as it is kindly called. I myself prefer to call it Estadinho, the diminutive that doesn't quite manage to express the meanness of spirit of this newspaper, if it had one.

You'll see here why Estadão was a fierce stenographer of Consensus Inc, bowing to corporatocracy & the official agencies it controls throughout the pandemic.

Let me tell you something about Estadao and Novartis. I dont know if u know, but Novartis' Zolgensma is the world's most expensive drug ever. It costs over 2 million dollars. Yes, million. And Brazil's public health system just started providing this drug to anyone who needs it

You'd think that Estadao, hating Bolsonaro as it does, wouldn't miss the chance to criticise him. A country where most people dont have sewerage & we pay 6 million reais to treat one person? To rule is to choose priorities, & a serious newspaper wouldnt miss that necessary debate

Here is another one about one of the biggest farce in the pharmaceutical industry: about how PreP, the anti-aids medicine that doesn't promise to prevent hiv, is furnished by the gov that says "there's no free lunch" but heres 2k per person/month for life,

Gilead does not promise Truvada *lowers* your chances of getting HIV. It doesn't even promise it *helps to lower* your chances of getting HIV. It says it CAN lower your chances, and only "with using safer sex practices"

Back to Estadão & its sponsorship by the pharmafia, but also its hatred of Bolsonaro, I thought i'd find at least some tweets questioning whether it'd be wise to provide a 6million real-drug in a country where

So Estadao missed the chance to criticise the government for not only authorising the most expensive drug but one that killed children. 🤔But with hydroxy/chloroquine no holds barred, & Estadao pretends to do journalism incessantly maligning a drug considered essential by the WHO
