What to do if you received a rejection from #ICA23@icahdq , a thread:
Take a moment to mourn; you worked hard, you had high hopes, and you were sure this was your best work. Don't ignore what that does to you. It hurts, and that is a valid response. But
know this happens to all of us and never stops happening. You may have picked the wrong division or encountered a reviewer who doesn't get it. Reviewers are anonymous, hard-working volunteers. They are not out to get anonymous authors. Sometimes you just have bad luck
If you get feedback, look at it carefully: correct mistakes, but don't change your narrative to please an opportunity that has already closed. If you cut something you like from your paper, a journal reviewer may turn it down because of what isn't there.
Each review process is different. Don't use one journal or conference review to change what you believe in before sending it to the next outlet, and finally, two things:
1: Make time for your disappointment, but then send it to the next journal or conference. When they turn it down, repeat. I had to repeat that for 7 years for a rarely cited paper I am still proud of. Don't give up. Don't be discouraged.
2: A very successful academic once told me that whether you get published depends on talent, fashion, or even coincidence. Don't let that define you. We are in the business of SUBMITTING. Every time you submit something, you do your job right: celebrate that moment. Every time!
