When I started out in my career as a product manager, I was constantly comparing myself to other PMs in my org.

While this was (and is) a great way to learn and pick up skills as a product manager, there were moments when it held me back

Focusing on others' progress can distract from your own goals.

As a PM, it's crucial to have a clear vision for your product and stay focused on your goals.

Comparing yourself to other PMs and their portfolio of work can lead to a lack of progress on your own initiatives.
Comparison breeds self-doubt

Comparison can lead to self-doubt, causing you to second guess your decisions and abilities as a PM.

Trust your skills and experience, and don't let comparisons affect your confidence.
It can lead to unhealthy competition.

As a PM, it's important to collaborate and work well with your team.

Constantly comparing yourself to others and their progress can lead to unhealthy competition, causing tension and stress within the team.
Comparison limits creativity and innovation.

As a PM, innovation, and creativity are key to developing successful products. Constantly comparing yourself to others and focusing on how your own work measures up to others can lead to conformity and a lack of originality.
[Continued] Additionally, comparison can also lead to feelings of inadequacy or self-doubt, making individuals less likely to take risks and try new things.
Side note: This might be something important to manage if you manage other product managers.

It's important to foster a spirit of collaboration rather than competitiveness and constant comparison. Will share some thoughts on this soon too.
As an individual focus on self-improvement. Instead of constantly comparing yourself to others, focus on self-improvement and setting your own goals.

Comparison is only healthy as long as it is driving you to improve yourself.

Keep learning and developing your skills as a PM.
