🔴 Startling Story: Omer Farouk Adam claims that Gen Bajwa abused his power & used spying charge to punish Gen Javed Iqbal for discussing / dissenting the extension plan!
Mentions that Gen Sarfraz (killed in copter crash) was aware of the case & there are other similar cases.
Omer Farouk Adam (who comes from a decorated military family and is serving as Gen Iqbal lawyer) made these claims in an interview with Rauf Klara.
Klasra makes a poor attempt at probing further about the motivation and concludes that one word of extension 'unleashed a storm’ whereas Adam hints that there is much more depth concerning the extension plan as this was the only info that was about the future.
Adam explains that other charges are about sharing publicly known historical info (including sharing CV!) to think tank and war games ppl despite Gen Iqbal getting permission to do. Some of these approvals were even directly from Gen Bajwa.
The background of the story is that eye-brows were raised when Lieutenant General Javed Iqbal was given a life sentence for spying in 2019 by Gen Bajwa. Even the BBC story hints that "Qamar Javed Bajwa "endorsed" their sentences". bbc.com/news/world-asi…
In the interview, it is mentioned that while the spying investigation had not completed, GHQ told chosen journalists that Gen. Iqbal will be sentenced as if it is already decided!
When the new COAS Asim Munir started, his first order was to pardon Gen Iqbal as he was well aware of the case. business-standard.com/article/intern…
It is concerning that Adam also mentions that the late Gen Sarfraz was also aware of the case...
If these claims of false charges by Bajwa are true, it hints that Gen Bajwa did not have any qualms about putting a military senior under the bus to further his ambition and doctrine. Where does that leave a journalist like Arshaf Sharif?
One reason the spying charges seem false are that Bajwa was feeling guilty and trying to reduce the sentence despite the severity of charges.
Despite this alleged abuse of power, it is funny that Bajwa used this treason arrest as PR to show that just like Imran Khan, he was trying to ensure accountability in his domain!
The full interview is here. Thanks to @MitiKaBawa for pointing it out.
If the spying charges are even partially true then it raises serious questions why COAS Asim Munir pardoned Gen Iqbal.

Were you not able to find more suitable and ethical journalists than Mansoor, Gharida, and Mehmal? Three rank PDM propagandists who have a history of disinformation and yellow journalism.
As PDM threatened VoNC and Imran Khan was preparing his trip for Russia, Gen Bajwa went on a mysterious trip 18th-22nd Feb. What was he up to ? A thread🧵
The only official part of the trip was the Bajwa met some EU officials in Belgium on 18th Feb: dawn.com/news/1675738
It looked like a strange visit considering he did not visit the Nato head quarters in Brussels. Neither did he visit the Munich Security Conference that was held not too far away on the same days (18-20 Feb) and is important for Afg policy.
It’s a pity that ppl such as Uzair Younus and Fahd Hussain dominate the English medium narrative esp. on @dawn_com. I just read Uzair’s piece on the COAS which is rich on sophistry. (1/n) A thread with some comments.
Instead of comparing IK’s multipolar view and spine vs. B’s inclination to become a US client state, Uzair frames foreign policy as IK’s non cooperation vs B’s cooperation. (2/n)
Instead of stating the mess that the coup has made, Uzair points out how B was meeting businessmen because the economy was not doing “particularly well”. (3/n)
