Tom Swarbrick asked her if she thought children as young as eight should be able to change legal gender, to which she replied "we should be exploring that".
She went on to say that it is "very clear when we talk about sex being binary in GCSE...[it] is a gross over-simplification of what is going on" and we need to consider "how our bodies express hormonal relationships".
"Very few of us know what our chromosomal make-up is...we don't have the chromosomal make-up of every human being", she added.
