If it isn't George Santos' mother's USCIS file, clearly stating that her parents were born in Brazil in 1918 and 1927, respectively. Belgium? Ukraine? Holocaust survivors? Yeah, no.
Still waiting on that apology, George. h/t @alccalz #resistancegenealogy
"My grandfather [fled] Ukraine in the 1920s to Belgium. Then [fled] Belgium to Brazil in 1940. It's a story of survival. Of tenacity. Of grit."
As a professional Jewish genealogist specializing in the Holocaust, I cannot reiterate how disgusting this is.
It's an insult to the many many Jewish constituents in NY-03.
One of them is my 91-year-old mother, who lost countless family members in the Holocaust.
Just to make sure the other important takeaway from that file isn't missed.
OK, since the Scooby Doos are out in force, this is a 100 page document. I shared two parts I found particularly interesting. But to answer what appears to be a burning question, these are the years she gives for her original entry into the U.S. And yes, it includes July of 1988.
This document was obtained via FOIA. But as some of you may know, the New York City birth index from the 80s is not public record. What a great day to support the efforts of @ReclaimTheRecs to put public records back in the public domain!

Sometimes it's Grandpa who came from Ukraine to Belgium. Sometimes it's Grandma. Occasionally it's mom.
I deal every single day with REAL Holocaust refugee families and I can assure you this isn't the kind of detail they're fuzzy on. Not when you're telling the truth.
I'm somehow madder than I was before. This is bullshit. They don't have a Jewish background. nypost.com/2022/12/26/rep…
“I never claimed to be Jewish,” Santos said. “I am Catholic. Because I learned my maternal family had a Jewish background I said I was `Jew-ish.'”
And before it was the grandfather supposedly coming from Ukraine to Belgium who was Jewish but now it's the grandmother who never left Brazil? This guy is a piece of work. And I'd like him to apologize to my mother, his constituent. Who really did lose family in the Holocaust.
I will say this: he's got an awful lot of chutzpah.
