A word on the Summit. This will be our third Principles First Summit and it will come at what will be a critical time for the principled lane to pause and reflect on America's future.

The Summit theme this year will be: Preserving American Institutions.
The agenda will focus on how to defend the liberal foundation of our republic & strengthen & improve core American institutions—including each branch of the federal gov’t, state gov’t, our Constitution and courts, businesses, armed forces, faith institutions, schools, and others.
Between panel discussions there will be keynote speeches from principled political leaders, including potential 2024 presidential candidates, who will share their vision for the future with our attendees from all over the country.
We are very proud that this remains remains a 100% grassroots volunteer effort. Tickets are just $45 each. This is about ideas and leadership that will improve our country—and we want you to be a part of it. 🇺🇸 #PrinciplesFirst

Here are the principles we put first:

Principle 1: Integrity, character, and virtue matter. If we don’t pick trustworthy people to lead us, they will bring the character of the country down with them. Unethical and immoral behavior can never become the norm.
Principle 2: Every person has dignity, quality, and worth. Each of us deserves the same level of respect and dignity from our government and fellow countrymen. All citizens are Americans and none of us is more American than any other.
Principle 3: Truth, honesty, rationality, & facts are non-negotiable. No one is entitled to their own facts – regardless of party. Data isn’t something to be afraid of and intelligence isn’t something to demean. Political discourse should be objective & uncompromisingly honest.

.@whignewtons has spent her career in conservative circles at the top of the legal profession and now at @thedispatch championing the Constitution & the rule of law in a principled way. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Summit stage.

.@AdamKinzinger routinely stood for principle in Congress & always defended the truth, even when it wasn’t easy. One of just two Rs to serve on the @January6thCmte, he put country first. We are delighted to welcome him back to the Summit stage.

We’re excited to announce a new #PrinciplesFirst project: The Pillars.

We’ve outlined our principles, but we didn’t pull them from thin air. They are rooted in a rich history of ideas that dates back hundreds of years. This project will survey that history over the coming weeks. Image
We start with one of the earliest thinkers: Sir Edmund Burke (1729-1797). Burke is widely regarded as the father of conservatism, which he grounded in humility & respect for the past. He celebrated the wisdom of order & tradition & warned against populist demagogues. Image
Burke opposed state-centric views of proper governance in favor of gradualism, organic order, and age-tested institutions. The practical fruits of human experience led him to preach the value of habit, instinct, custom, and faith.

THREAD: What is principled conservatism?

We look forward to hearing your ideas at the Summit this Saturday, but our grassroots huddles have been thinking through the answer for a while. Here are some of our principles..

The very first one? Integrity & character matter.
Principle #2. This is a big one for us. All citizens are Americans and none of us is more American than any other. We all deserve dignity and respect and owe both to each other as fellow countrymen.
Principle #3. Conservatism should stand for facts & rationality. Lies and dishonesty have become so commonplace in Washington that our enemies are now using our disregard for the truth against us.
