Giants GM Joe Schoen, asked if he ideally wants to sign Jones to a long-term contract, says "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it." Says it will be a negotiation and conversation. Giants will begin to get into those decisions and scenarios Thursday
Joe Schoen jokes (half-jokes) that he liked hearing Leonard Williams say he would be willing to take a paycut. Says whoever asked him that question did a great job
Asked Joe Schoen if the Giants' success this season has accelerated ownership's expectations, or if they are still patient enough for a long-term build.
Schoen says he talks with John Mara, Steve Tisch and Chris Mara all the time and they have not had that conversation
Joe Schoen says the dinner with Odell Beckham was "good" but deflects on directly answering about revisiting that option.
Speaks generally to all free agent options they will evaluate
Giants GM Joe Schoen, asked if he believes Daniel Jones can win a Super Bowl, says in his answer: "We're happy he's gonna be here."
Did he slip?
Told he just said Jones would be here, he goes back to his early general statement.
But... interesting!
One theme of Joe Schoen's approach to the offseason signings and decisions, it appears, is that he values "in-house" knowledge of players as people, injury histories, performance. It's very clear he is prioritizing *trying* to keep the NYG UFAs who impressed him in the building
Joe Schoen said Saquon Barkley is "a guy that we'd like to have back," but he said during negotiations at the bye week, "we weren't really that close" on the value of a possible new contract. He said Barkley is a "good" football player. Those talks could get interesting
Schoen was asked 'is there anybody you said [to them] look, you're not coming back?'
He laughs. "No. We didn't have those conversations. Good question, though!"

John Mara is speaking now: "I haven't given [fans] any reason to believe"" I'm going to get it right this time around. "We have to earn back the fans' trust." #Giants
John Mara says he wishes the last hiring process "had been more extensive" and that the Giants had "taken more time with it."
Five questions in and no one has asked John Mara about Joe Judge's firing. Strange
John Mara vehemently pushes back against his family as the problem. Says Chris Mara has "no authority," but grants he has personnel input and was part of today's first GM interview.
BREAKING: William Dean, attorney for three of DeAndre Baker's four alleged victims, has been arrested in Broward County (Fla.) and is facing an "extortion charge" connected to the armed robbery case involving Baker and Quinton Dunbar.
This casts doubt about whether the case against ex-Giant DeAndre Baker will continue. Investigators say Dean was attempting to extort Baker, wanted Baker to pay each of his clients more than $266,000, and, in exchange, the victims in the case would oblige in turn ...
Vics would either stop cooperating with prosecutors in the case or change their initial sworn statements to police, thereby weakening the case against Baker. Evidence reveals Dean told Baker’s attorney his clients would do “anything you want, so long as the money is right.”
Former Eagles 2nd round pick WR J.J. Arcega-Whiteside among today's inactives for Philly.
A couple Giants insights:
- Team turnover is constant. On special teams, CB Corey Ballentine played 15 snaps last week & LB T.J. Brunson logged 12. Ballentine was released; Brunson is inactive.
- On O-line, Judge intends to rotate 3 offensive tackles & three guards thru game.
