The Woman King shut out from awards season is truly a sight to behold. The film, director & actors gave us some of the best work this year.
But I tell you what- #TheWomanKing went triple platinum with THE PEOPLE. @GPBmadeit will continue to do queen things!
[correction- there were SAG and BAFTA nominations for The Woman King as there should be! But they shoulda DOMINATED this whole season and it’s upsetting me and my homegirls!!!]

This is offensive.

Not just because it’s patently racist. But because it is insulting to everyone’s intelligence to insist that children can’t handle the truth.

Floridians-and people from school districts everywhere facing the same book and curriculum bans should be offended.
What’s worse, is that for voters who buy white supremacy lock, stock & barrel, their fealty to DeSantis just increased.

They believe him, his “Stop WOKE Act,” and banning things like AP Black History are *protecting* them, their power, and their property.

It makes him stronger.
This goes for outright white supremacists and polite racist alike.

None of them are trying to have their power threatened. All of them will go into that booth and vote for him again, whether they tell you or not.

Because there SHOULD BE shame about slavery. But the shame IS NOT ours, and should never be.

Studying what my ancestors survived & their beauty and creativity & brilliance in the midst of it is essential to my understanding of who I am & what I’m made of.
And when I was young, that included my Addy doll & the entirety of her story. I absolutely wish there were more options for me when I was young to tell the fullness of the Black American experience for young readers, but thankfully, my parents taught me that early & often.
I truly do realize that was not everyone’s experience. And that in the last few years especially, our growing exposure to Black trauma has made many of us purely exhausted with its depictions-even historically necessary ones.

The frustration is justified.

If you’ve sadly seen the body camera footage of Keenan Anderson being taxed to death, you’ve seen clearly that there is no reforming that.

Less-than-lethal weapons kill, too. And that’s what @LAPDHQ did.
He was a teacher, tased multiple times, went into cardiac arrest and died at the hospital.

hot take: it’s 2023 and I’m tired of buying Black owned brands that don’t design for curvy Black bodies.

I was tryin to leave “it fits everywhere but the butt” in the Dillard’s dressing room 😮‍💨
All Black bodies aren’t the same-but to be sure, if our curves set trends, our brands can cater to them.
Like too many things, too much of the representation ain’t righteous.
