Here's my latest mini-purifier/lamp, using 2 small Uppatvind filters from Ikea. This one isn't well-optimized, but to test some ideas/parts and end up with a little quiet air purifier for my daughter's room. 1/ DIY air purifier with 3 clear 80mm fans and 2 black fansThe inside of a DIY air purifier, showing wires and lightingDIY air purifier sitting on a dresser
The top 3 fans have RGB LED's, but most of the light comes from 8" of LED strip. I was curious how well the clear fans would diffuse light-- pretty well! Bit bright now, but should dim over time as filters grey.

The Uppatvind filters would work great for an ultra-portable build.

Two sets (4 total) of these 80mm USB-powered fans should be even better. Great static pressure. Plus they can run off a powerbank, which you could tuck inside the box for travel! 3/

Alternatively you could use just one Uppatvind filter and two 120mm USB blower fans, which would be a very slender build just like @amandalhu's HEPAndbag 4/
For lighting, I was looking for an LED strip with:

- 3000k color temperature
- 90+ color rendering index (CRI)
- COB LEDs (tiny LEDs with diffuse light)
- 12V

Found one for $15, and only needed 8" of the 10' roll. Plenty leftover for other builds 5/

I was hesitant to experiment with 80mm or 92mm fans due to cost, but I discovered the joy of OEM lots from manufacturers on ebay. Scored over 40 SilenX fans for ~$2/each, including some cute little 40mm fans that push a measly 5 cfm.

Top tip: Arctic sells B-stock on ebay too 6/
Performance: did some quick measurements and estimate the build comes in around 30-40 cfm.

With stronger fans, it should be possible to beat the original Uppatvind in size, noise AND performance (because of the second filter). Cost tough to beat though: Ikea unit is only $40 7/
Also check out the Healthy Glow from @cleanairkits. Gorgeous and closer to a Corsi-Rosenthal Box in air filtering power

Just look at that subtle opal acrylic, the tasteful thickness of it. Oh my god it even has laser engraving

@cleanairkits @mrlighttouch @robwiss Shout out to all the great mini-purifiers out there: like the SmartAir QT3, Ikea Uppatvind and Levoit Core Mini. All around $40-50 and practical to lug about. These all have durable, easy to clean shells that would be very challenging to DIY 9/
