.@cbouzy being honest that there will be mistakes and growing pains but he & his team aims to make a space for us marginalized folks. #spoutible
.@cbouzy paid attn to what happened to HIVE w. regards to security.
No such thing as "hack proof" but #spoutible has made it as 'tough as possible' by making data encrypted. He can "promise" us he ain't like HIVE. 😂
Then he used a bunch of tech language that sounded like Latin.
.@cbouzy knows fully well that he's a target for being him and what he does so racists & goons will try shit. The reality is that anyone who speaks out abt racism and yt supremacy is "used" to this & we prepare for that.
Just support a brother, he's doing good work. #spoutible
.@cbouzy made this with our input, so it's trying to make this accommodating from the ground up. #spoutible
Re: Security, verification process was awful on Twitter -- #spoutible is going to work better. I'm SO glad the verification process will be different. 😂
.@cbouzy if you are creating multiple accounts for targeted harassment you will be suspended.
.@cbouzy "disinformation that will get ppl killed w/ get you kicked off the platform."
You can join & discuss politics from the whole political spectrum, but not spread disinfo & to "spout" hate.
Bouzy is fostering a platform that prioritizes safety for marginalized. #spoutible
.@mikewhoatv makes a wonderful observation as someone testing out the platform. He points out that some platforms have algorithms that are antagonistic, whereas he's finding joy on #spoutible. Content he wants.
@cbouzy confirms he's not trying to exploit the worst in us.
.@cbouzy, the platform won't allow for you to be harassed bc of who you love, how you were born, or who you worship.
If you say something abt someone, they won't be allowed to stalk you. #spoutible
I like the idea of being able to migrate from Twitter to #spoutible by being able to tweet and spout.
Y'all better join. I want to connect with you all there.

🧵In celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth here’s some of Canada’s Black history. Let's make it a jeopardy like quiz. Canada loves to pretend it’s superior to its southern cousin when it comes to progress but let’s see abt that. Let's have some fun & learn!

Do you know that slavery was ok in Canada? Mhmm. Canada become a federation in 1867.
Do you know when the first record of slavery in Canada was?

The first recorded instance of African enslavement in Canada was in 1628.
Olivier Le Jeune was a young boy (approx 7 yrs old) from Madagascar whose African name is unknown. He may have been part Malay as well. Mixed like me, yo!! Oliver arrived in Québec in 1628 &

My favorite (?) Brexit story is that of the yt left-wing Brexiteer/Lexiteer scholar who fervently argued w/ scholars from the European continent & abroad abt cutting ties w/ European markets. He argued that his support for Brexit was NOT abt racism & solely abt the economy.
He now works at a German institution. 🤣
The reason why this is so galling is bc he has always been VERY quiet & mealy mouthed abt racism in medieval studies, but yt Brits think he's some "woke" dude. These sorts of ppl are entirely self-serving & will write abt racism "as a theory". They only care abt what serves them.
I keep seeing GBBO tweets by ppl who should know better. So many ppl on the show itself are racist AF, but ppl continue to put entertainment ahead of thinking how engrained racism is. Ppl in the will point out institutional racism & then turn around & support these British messes
And no it is not "just a show." One of the regulars has done Blackface, another is a South African ww w/ appalling views whose son is some conservative douche and so on.
It's always interesting that anything outside the American sphere isn't examined closely for racism.
Years ago I was confused as to why some PoC colleagues couldn't sense the racism in these British shows (property & other cooking shows) but then I realized their perception of Britain was linked to accents they associated w/ being "posh."🙄
Oh we all know mermaids aren't real, right? Ok, did you know that medieval ppl were less racist than ppl today? Ppl have forgotten that mermaids/mermen were sometimes depicted as Black/brown folks in the Middle ages. Cue the crying!
Solidarity among yt "allies" shouldn't be contingent on comfort level and/or whether BIPOC are nice to them or not. If they are speaking truth to power those are the voices to amplify -- even if that disrupts your own comfort.
I'm really sick of ppl thinking BIPOC need to talk nicely, tone it down, be polite, when we speak to yt folks. If we call you in it's bc we see you as someone we hope we can trust & count on to show up. That's the difference between a call out and a call in.
But if you begin to see us like we are just angry "others" reprimanding you when we call you in, then don't expect us to stay be all hush hush.
Ppl assume call outs are the first resort when they are often the last.
Hi! A wonderful Sunday to all. Feel loved today except for retired prof David Ganz who was mad abt 1 of my public talks, created a fake acct to stalk &has sent obsessive emails for over a yr. The latest is him schooling me abt a dead Windsor. May his name always be assoc w/ creep
This all started bc he sent me a 'know your place' email after a talk I gave on a 7th-century abbot named Hadrian saying that yt scholars have, for yrs, downplayed that he was melaninated. I was then called a c*nt by this guy:
