Today’s #TimeToTalkDay – a day to take a moment to check in with each other, talk and listen.
It can be tricky to reach out to someone you’re worried about, so we’ve got some tips to get that conversation started. ⬇
Does someone you love seem anxious or distressed? They could be stressed or fearful.
These feelings are often caused by our environment, like exam stress or difficult life events. ⬇
They could be anxious - this can be harder to explain. If often begins internally - a feeling that something's going to harm us, but we don't know what it is.
Long periods of unmanaged stress or fear can also increase anxiety. ⬇
Think about the last time you felt anxious.
⭕What did it feel like?
⭕Did anyone say or do anything that made me feel better or worse?
⭕What helped me get through it?
You've probably noticed them acting differently. Reflect on the changes you've seen and express interest in how they are.
Recognise that people might be dealing with many new challenges and emotions. This may encourage them to open up. ⬇
Ask them how they feel when anxiety starts coming on, like a racing heartbeat or sweating.
Practicing breathing techniques can help them to feel more calm. ⬇
Suggest doing something like going for a walk or playing a game to clear their head. They might want to do this before, or instead of chatting.
Writing thoughts and feelings down can help people think more rationally and track any patterns of worry. ⬇
Just allowing someone to express their feelings and thoughts can help them take back some control over their anxiety.
A little conversation can make a huge difference. Share this post to encourage more people to take time out to talk today. ❤ #TimeToTalkDay
