Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala in double interview with the club's magazine #Säbener51 ⤵️
On their goals for 2023..

Davies: "I want to win every possible title with the team: the 11th league title in a row, of course, the DFB Pokal – and we always have the Champions League in mind. At FC Bayern, it's in our DNA to want to win every competition we enter."
Davies: "Every time we enter the pitch, only victory counts. I like that, it drives me. Personally, I wish I would be spared injuries and be able to help the team. I would be happy about a goal or two, and I would also like to increase my assist count."
Musiala: "I can only underline all of that - and I think we have the squad and the quality in our team to achieve the highest goals. We can't stop trying to keep improving. That goes for the entire team as well as myself: I always want more."
Musiala: "Score more goals, give more assists. I want to get involved so that we can achieve our goals together."
What does friendship mean to you, in general?

Davies: “Being there for each other is the most important thing for me. That you can rely on others. There's chemistry between Jamal and me, on and off the pitch. There is a deep mutual understanding."
Davies: "And we can have fun together – that’s also important when you spend a lot of time together."
Musiala: "You can laugh a lot with Phonzy. I think with him by your side you just always have fun. That's his nature. It's also important to me in a friendship that you can talk about everything. With Phonzy, it feels like he's practically my family."
Alphonso, what's cool about Jamal?

Davies (thinking): "Whoa, what am I supposed to answer now...? It's his whole personality that draws you in when you're around him. Jamal is always full of good energy."
Jamal, is there any quality in Alphonso you would like to have? For example, he's pretty fast..

Musiala: "A characteristic? I just have to think for a moment... It's just his openness. Phonzy is always relaxed."
Musiala: "I think his special way makes it easy for him to free himself from pressure or negative thoughts. He doesn't let anything that could bother him get close to him. You can always have fun with him, but he also knows when to work hard."
Davies: "Okay, I always thought I got that trait from you (laughs). Let me think for a moment: I think I would like to have the confidence of Jamal. Everything he does, he does with a deep awareness of doing it well"
Davies: "It doesn't matter whether he's playing football or just about any day-to-day life. That's very impressive, especially given his age. At his age, I wasn't anywhere near as mature as he is"
You wrote on social media that whole Jamal was denied the Kopa Trophy, he won't be denied the Ballon d'Or in the future...

Davies: "Yes, that was important to me, because that is simply my firm conviction. I mean look at this boy!"
Davies: "In my opinion he is already one of the best or maybe even the best player in the world at his age group. With all due respect to the others, he deserved the Kopa trophy."
Davies: "And when I see his incredible talent, his ambition and all his drive, I see him one day with the Ballon d'Or in his hand. If Jamal continues as he has over the past few months, the sky is the limit for him."
How does it feel when a teammate says something like that about you?

Musiala (laughs): "I just want to hug him for a moment. Of course it's nice to hear something like that. But I'm only at the beginning and can't rest for a second."
Musiala: "Every compliment is an incentive and a motivation for me to keep working on myself and improving myself. Nobody in this world has achieved great goals just because others said nice things about them."
Musiala: "When Phonzy says the sky is the limit, he hits the nail on the head: You shouldn't set any limits, but believe in yourself and give your all every day to achieve your goals. Then one day you will be rewarded."
Musiala on saying he wants to be one of the best in the world: "At FC Bayern you are taught to always believe in yourself and always aim for the maximum. I like this identity a lot, because that's how I think too"
Musiala: "If you don't believe that you can be the best, that's the wrong approach in my opinion. Ever since I was a kid, I've always had the goal of taking the next step, and with every step forward, your confidence grows as well."
Musiala: "For my game I have to believe in myself, that I can score goals, that I can dribble, that I can trust myself to do anything. I won't rest"
You are both young and fan favourites. What does that mean for you, especially considering that you are big role models for kids?

Davies: "It means a lot to me personally, and I think Jamal feels the same way: it's not that long ago that we both looked up to others as kids"
Davies: "so we know too well what a big responsibility we now have. I want to convey to kids in particular that you should always be yourself in everything you do. Enjoy every single moment you have in your life, especially with your family and friends."
Davies: "And take your chances, whether in football or beyond: In my opinion, the most important thing is always to be yourself, to enjoy what you're doing. I always try to have a smile on my face. I am incredibly grateful for everything that life has given me so far"
Musiala: "Having fun with what you do is the basis for being able to do it well. I also think it's important to always keep your head up: What are you dreaming of, what are your goals, how can you achieve it? I want to inspire people."
Musiala: "They should have fun when they watch us - and above all the kids should be able to feel that anything is possible if you always give your all. There are no limits in football as in life."
Neuer & Müller have shaped the club for a decade, then came Kimmich and Goretzka – and then both of you. Are you the next generation that lives and passes on the "Mia san mia"?

Davies: "The goal is always to be Bayern's "next gen""
Davies: "We are still very young, we are making our experiences and we see it as a privilege to be able to learn from Manu, Thomas, Jo, Leon and the others. They also looked up to Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben in the past"
Davies: "These players lace up their boots and hit the pitch every day to not lose even one training game. It is our job to absorb this spirit, live it and pass it on."
Musiala: "We are the youngsters who want to get to the top with FC Bayern. I'm learning from my teammates every day and in the end it's all about winning titles together. Every generation has its opportunities at FC Bayern."

Julian Nagelsmann on Cancelo: "It was very spontaneous after the game against Frankfurt. I didn't even talk to him beforehand. Hasan Salihamidžić said we have a chance. We've talked about him before. He can play many positions, he's a very attacking full-back." Image
Nagelsmann: "He prefers to play on the right rather than on the left. He has great ability to go inside, has a good shot, dynamism and good crosses, he has different characteristics than the players we already have in these positions" Image
Cancelo to start tomorrow?

Nagelsmann: "He's fit and theoretically able to play. I am not sure yet. We have a lot of fit players. We have to find a balance between stability and the excitement of a new player coming in. I have not decided yet" Image

Salihamidžić: "It was pretty quick. When we saw the chance & spoke to João's management, we quickly made the decision to bring him. We were always interested and have been in touch a lot over the past few years, but things don't always work in football. Now we're glad he's here" Image
Salihamidžić: "We have big goals. The World Cup hit us hard, we're missing Manuel Neuer, Lucas Hernández and Noussair Mazraoui. With Yann Sommer, Daley Blind and João we have closed this gap. We hope that we now have the squad depth to achieve our goals" Image
Salihamidžić: "Everyone knows about João's qualities. He is flexible and creative. He can play in any team in the world. We are convinced of his qualities. When we saw that it was possible, we were very happy. We have big plans with him" Image

João Cancelo: "It's a very good feeling. I took this chance when it came. I knew this big club and I wanted to take this opportunity. I want to start training with my new teammates as soon as possible. I'm looking forward to getting started" Image
Cancelo on his decision to leave City: "I've not had much game time in the past few weeks, which influenced my decision. It has nothing to do with my relationship with Pep. I really wanted to embark on this new adventure at such a club with such a big history. It's a dream for me Image
Cancelo on reuniting with Leroy Sané: "I haven't spoken to him before the move. Of course we know each other from our time at City. I didn't have to ask a former teammate, I knew how big FC Bayern is. I'm very happy to be here and to show my footballing qualities." Image

João Cancelo is unlikely to return to Manchester City. Last week, he asked his agent Jorge Mendes to find him a move away. Cancelo and Guardiola talked and it was agreed a transfer would be best. Bayern have been huge admirers of Cancelo for several years [@TheAthleticFC] Image
A source at Man City said Cancelo is is “like a volcano”. Even those close to him do not dispute he is unhappy when left out of games and that he speaks his mind. Several former coaches and others who followed his career expected an outcome like this [@TheAthleticFC]
“When he’s in a good mood, he’s excellent,” said another source close to the City team. “When he’s in a bad mood, he’s a bad boy. He thinks he is the best and doesn’t accept any advice or correction.” [@TheAthleticFC]

Jamal Musiala in @kicker interview: "I'm happy with my performances this season, even though there are things I can improve. There are moments in the game where I'm not really there or I make simple wrong passes. I want to work on that" [@FrankLinkesch] Image
Musiala: "Compared to last season's performances, I think I developed well and made a good start to the season"
Musiala: "I always try to work on myself. I reflected on things with the coach and myself. In addition, I'm playing in a more attacking position than last season. Now I found my position where I'm really comfortable. I also found a rhythm that I take from game to game"

Dayot Upamecano in @lequipe interview: "Julian Nagelsmann said that I've been playing at a world class level this season? I don't know if I would say that, but for sure I've progressed in so many areas"
Do you consider yourself one of the best centre-backs in Europe?

Upamecano: "Honestly, that's not how I think. I know my strengths. I'm hoping to be one of the best, I always want to grow. I worked a lot on myself this past summer"
Upamecano: "A big player works on the difficulties he has. I watched back what I didn't do well last season and worked on it. I worked with a personal trainer. I also worked on my voice to communicate better. I feel very well today"
