A former KGB agent named Yuri Alexandrovich Bezmenov claimed in 1984(interview to G. Edward Griffin) that Russia has a long-term plan/goal of ideologically subverting the U.S which was put in play to defeat America through Psychological warfare(which takes decades to achieve).

He chillingly predicted the modern day America 39 years ago. Bezmenov described this process as “a great brainwashing” that has four basic stages. The first stage is called "Demoralization."
“Demoralization” which takes from 15 to 20 years to achieve to change the perception of reality of every American. It's an irreversible process which involves re-educating one generation of students. You can not change their mind even if you expose them to authentic information.
In demoralization phase, young people are influenced to question the integrity of their country and raise suspicions through media propaganda and academia with the help of so called college professor, public figure, famous personalities and Intellectuals.
The brainwash is to such an extent that despite of the abundance of information no one is able to come to sensible conclusions in the interest of defending themselves, their families, their community, and their country.”
Ex-KGB agent Benzmenov emphasised in the 39 years old chilling interview “Once the useful idiots (leftists), who idealistically believe in the beauty of Soviet socialism or Communism, get disillusioned, they become the worst enemies of their own country.”
