Yup, from all accounts, Gadkari is the only one who at least does *some* work related to his actual ministry, as opposed to being a Modi agent troll like FM, EAM, RM.
That wee lil slow work gets spun into him being some infrastructure savant. ๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ
Plus Gadkari or Fadnavis or some Nagpur brahmin is the one Nagpur really wants in charge in the end. Why even Modi Shah leave him alone. They Haven't tried to neuter him like the other senior BJP leaders.

Question for first generation white collar Indian Americans who have children aged 10 and above. How do you contextualize your immigration experience for them? This White collar parachuting into the upper middle class is kinda unprecedented in US history. Do you mention that?
A lot of the 20th century Indian American immigrant experience was one marred by struggles against racism and fitting in. But the 21st century Indian immigrant has, on the whole, had it a lot easier than most other immigrant groups. Livelihood, income, leisure, education wise.
Even these long wait times to get the green card or uncertainty after mass layoffs are, all things considered, a first world problem.
Different from the 2-3 jobs at minimum wage struggle of the working class immigrant.
Tharoor is going to keep up his glib soft sanghi act going cos he still keeps getting invited everywhere. Women have been trying to teach him feminism for over 15 years in public and he gets more and more entrenched in his traditionalist thinking cos he is rewarded for it. ๐คท๐ฝ
Tharoor is a good example of a Brahmin who keeps failing upwards.
Failed at pointless UNSG bid? Here's an MP seat. Doing cricket corruption? Here's ministership. Keep siding with BJP? Here, run to be Congress president. Lost? Lecture people to forget Gujarat.
Still get invites.
Ah yes, "non violent" honey! Got into it recently.
Example of how things used to be until capitalism almost killed it because of economic efficiency BUT is now making a comeback in this 21st century hyper segmented capitalism, as ethical segments grow in numbers and income.
In any farmer's market in the US and also in many trader Joe's type store, you will see a huge number of "wild honey" bottles.
And people like @Makarand_S educating folks that honey is actually supposed to taste and look very different! Not the standard golden color!
Of course, why do we all think honey should look and taste that standard golden color?
Modern capitalism.
Anything sweet is easy to sell. Honey is universal. How to profit most? Economics of scale. Standardization. Violence. Monoculture culture. Profits. Growth.
Mexican spicy grasshopper salt goes really well with Marathi matki usaL and I suspect would make a great dry chutney in vadapav too!
Vadapav aani naaktodyachi chatni. ๐
Future & past both, for Mexicans.
I was very impressed at how Mexican entrepreneurs in the F&B space sell their millennia old traditional products in the modern language of science and sustainability. Not just "it's ancient, so it's awesome".
Be it pulque or Mezcal or grasshopper or larvae or any such thing that might seem unusual or even icky to an average modern human outside central America, they will start off with Olmec or Mayan origins, but focus on the science & functional logic that transcends time.
Putting a pin in this tweet for a future thread on how there were LOTS of attempts to popularize American football for decades that just didn't work. Until TV came and changed the very way human beings follow sport!
We don't realize how differently we follow sport today v 1923.
Tuesday, my class lecture is about Sports and Entertainment Marketing.
In which I spend most time drilling down on what exactly is the "product" in any sports broadcast or event, what exactly are the "consumers" getting out of it.
Always fun when NJ undergrads think about this.
NJ is the most densely populated AND the most urbanized and suburbanized state, one of the most college educated, white collar, immigrant heavy etc etc. Very lucrative ad market.
There is still no football, baseball, basketball team that identifies as NJ based! ๐ค๐ค
"Prof, weird request. Can you do a quick explainer thread about American football? Just the basics enough to follow the game? A few of us intl grad students are planning a Super Bowl party. It's a confusing sport. No one simplifies complex like you do. ๐"
Aww, okay!

1. ๐ Happens in short bursts of less than 10 seconds, not continuously like rugby ๐ or โฝ
2. In every play, the goal is to get the ball from the blue line on your screen to the yellow line on your screen in 4 attempts or less.
3. the ball can be "passed" forward only once.
4. Two ways of getting the ball to the yellow line. Either hold it and run, fighting your way through human bodies that can tackle you.
Or that one allowed forward pass is thrown to be caught, like in Jerry Maguire.
5. Once you reach the yellow line, you get 4 fresh attempts
