Leftoids genuinely fell for the Trump Russia hoax because they lack loyalty on the most basic level (they care about family as much as rocks, have no in-group preference).
And because it's so foreign to them they make terrible judges of loyalty and patriotism.

One early red pill for me was reading the "stagnant Japan" narrative in the media for years and then going there and realizing that everything we're told about economics is a lie.
Also, only a journalist could write a paragraph about how good a place is, and then further down say that the reason it's so bad is not enough immigrants.
