If you are into #hiking and love #Barbados ❤️🇧🇧 as much as I do, perhaps you want to have a look at my little project "#Barbados360" where I hiked around the whole island.

👀🧵
Basically, I divided the island into 8 hikes:

1️⃣Oistins➡️Harp Gun🐟
2️⃣Harp Gun➡️Sam Lord's Castle☀️
3️⃣Sam Lord's Castle➡️Ragged Point💨
4️⃣Ragged Point➡️Bathsheba😍
5️⃣Bathsheba➡️Cove Bay🌊
6️⃣Cove Bay➡️Cement Plant🐮
7️⃣Cement Plant➡️Batts Rock🌴
8️⃣Batts Rock ➡️Oistins
1⃣Oistins➡️Harp Gun🐟11.4km

Did you ever hear of HARP, High Altitude Research Project?

Two 36m guns that fired projectiles up to 260km height in the 60s🤯. It ended in 1974 but the guns are still on-site.

Its Director was murdered in Brussels in 1990. No one was ever charged.
Benches

A bunch of random benches that I found along the way.

Because, why not!
2⃣Harp Gun➡️Sam Lord's Castle☀️9km

The myth: Sam Lord got rich hanging lanterns in🌴, pirates would mistake them for Bridgetown & wreck their ships on the reefs... he'll then rob them!

In 2010 it was a🏨that suspiciously caught on🔥. Now a controversial resort is being built👀
Architecture

Barbados has some unique architecture, historically the most common one is the Chattel House🏡

These small dwellings started to populate the island after emancipation and were made simple to be easily moved in a single day as "owners" typically didn't own the land.
3️⃣Sam Lord's Castle➡️Ragged Point💨8.1km

Beautiful hike in beautiful St. Philip, the largest parish and with a lot to offer besides centipedes🪱😜

Home to the most rugged corners of the island as well as some of the most beautiful beaches! twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Lighthouses💡

There are four old lighthouses in Barbados. Have you been to all of them? Do you know in which one you can go all the way to the top and enjoy a breathtaking 360° view?🌅👀

- South Point💡
- East/Ragged Point💡
- Harrison's Point💡
- Needhams Point💡
4⃣Ragged Point➡️Bathsheba😍14.7km

Personally, my favourite hike. The stretch from Bath to Bathsheba is commonly known but the part I enjoyed the most was the Conset Bay surroundings.

Also, Culpepper Island is worth a look. Did you ever hear of this other island in Barbados?🏝️ twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Beaches🌴☀️🌊

From hidden gems to the most popular ones, ALL beaches in Barbados are PUBLIC.

I counted 105 but it really depends on the tide. How many have you visited?👀

Snorkelling🤿is a must but don't disturb the🐢

Fun fact:🦈attacks have never been reported in Barbados.
5️⃣Bathsheba➡️Cove Bay🌊17.5km

From St. Joseph to St. Lucy, an unmissable hike across 4 parishes: long turtle nesting beaches, hot sun, rough waters, wild wind & breathtaking views!

Ever heard of Pico Teneriffe? Well if not, now you did and you don't want to get lost there...🥴
Tribute🕊️🕊️

Zander Venezia and Amalee Mayers were two young community-loved Barbadians who lost their lives in the East Coast waters at the age of 16 in 2017 and 2020 respectively.

My humble tribute to them and many others that lost their lives in the waters of Barbados.
6️⃣Cove Bay➡️Cement Plant🐮23.8km

Towering cliffs, rough beaches & hidden gullies: Northernmost and only "female" parish in Barbados, birthplace of Barbados's first Prime Minister, Errol W. Barrow🧓🏿

Animal Flower Cave, Archer's Bay, Harrison's Point... St. Lucy in its purest!💎
Piers & Jetties

With different forms and sizes, I counted 7 of these common landmarks of Barbados.

Some of them were recently renovated like the ones in Speightstown & Oistins. Useful for boats and fishermen but also for the marine life that usually flourishes under them🪸🐠🐟
7⃣Cement Plant➡️Batts Rock🌴23.6km

St. Peter & St. James, Speightstown & Holetown; the very well-known West Coast has some of the most impressive white sand beaches in the🌎

Also, well-known for its unique natural swimming pools that form on the roads every rainy season👀😬
Benches 2

And now time for some fact you didn't know you needed to know...

There are 67 random benches, seats, swings and similar along the coast of Barbados.

You are welcome.
8⃣Batts Rock ➡️Oistins🥵19.6km

Last stage was the South Coast of Barbados including Bridgetown and its Garrison (UNESCO world heritage site🏅) & Carlisle Bay and its pristine turquoise waters full of shipwrecks.

Finished back at Oistins, the most famous fish market in Barbados!
On the negative side, I found a lot of sargassum & litter on my hikes.

Sargassum is a type of seaweed alarmingly increasing in the Caribbean, affecting biodiversity, communities & tourism.

More research & investment are needed. To learn more & support👉

Most of the litter I saw is washed up from the sea but we all need to play our part in keeping it clean.

You can be part of the solution by simply not littering, raising awareness or doing beach clean-ups. Check the link if you want to contribute!♻️👇

This is all, thanks for watching & I hope you liked it!👏

if so, give some love to my first thread so more people get to see how blessed we are in Barbados❤️🇧🇧

DM me if you want more information, all my pics are geotagged📍, including the benches ones😉

Get out there and hike!
BONUS TRACK

Just because you made it till the end... another set or random benches for your enjoyment.
