🧵 Welcome to the #dupont2023 Ceremony Live-Tweet. Join us as we celebrate excellence in audio and video journalism.

Tune in at dupont.org/watch as we honor this year’s Silver Baton recipients, and follow along as we tweet and congratulate our winners.
After two years of virtual celebrations, host @NorahODonnell welcomes everyone to the #duPont2023 Award Ceremony — the 81st edition.

"For over 80 years, the duPont baton has stood for excellence in reporting," says O’Donnell.

Later, she will be joined by cohost @IAmAmnaNawaz
@NorahODonnell @IAmAmnaNawaz The night’s first Silver Baton is awarded to @NewsHour, for their breaking coverage of two of the year’s biggest stories: the withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
"[This team] are men and women who race toward the chaos and the pain at great personal expense. There is no higher privilege than what I do ," says @mtill50. Congratulations to the @NewsHour team! #duPont2023
@mtill50 @NewsHour Our next Award recognizes outstanding local reporting. @NC5 wins a Silver Baton for their series, “Revealed,” which investigated the backdoor dealings of political fundraising in the Tennessee legislature.

The duPont Jury called it “state house reporting at its absolute best."
@mtill50 @NewsHour @NC5 Veteran NewsChannel 5’s Chief Investigative Reporter @NC5PhilWilliams accepts the award. This is his 4th in 20 years.

Williams stresses the importance of local statehouse reporting:

"America needs this kind of journalism. And if you don't do it, who will?"
@mtill50 @NewsHour @NC5 @NC5PhilWilliams Congratulations to Williams, @KevWisniewski, @mbonnett5, @sboonstra, and the entire NewsChannel 5 team!

#duPont2023
@mtill50 @NewsHour @NC5 @NC5PhilWilliams @KevWisniewski @mbonnett5 @sboonstra Next up, another local winner. @NBCDFW took a deep dive into a seemingly innocuous phenomenon: the sale of paper license tags.

The team discovered a vast underground network of criminal activity - including drug and human trafficking.
@mtill50 @NewsHour @NC5 @NC5PhilWilliams @KevWisniewski @mbonnett5 @sboonstra @NBCDFW Senior Investigative Reporter @ScottNBC5 accepts the award.

“We start with a question, it leads to another question, and another. And sometimes it leads to a story you never expected,” says Friedman.
@mtill50 @NewsHour @NC5 @NC5PhilWilliams @KevWisniewski @mbonnett5 @sboonstra @NBCDFW @ScottNBC5 Local journalism matters. As a result of the investigation, the head of the Texas DMV resigned.

Congratulations to @ScottNBC5, @ParksDigsIn, @DFW_JSanchez, and the entire @NBCDFW team! #duPont2023
