π·πΊ In January 2023, Col Gen Aleksei Kim became one of the three deputies of Valery Gerasimov, whose personal trust he has enjoyed for many years. Kim is described as an honest and attentive commander, without excessive ambitions and pretensions to high positions.
At the same time, Col Gen Kim has considerable combat experience and knows all about the Russian Ground Forces. He went through the civil war in Tajikistan and the second Chechen war, for which he received two Orders of Courage.
Although Kim was not a scholar in the usual sense, he is well versed in military science.
All the war games at the Center for Military Strategic Studies were under his purview.
Kim's promotion up the ladder began in Syria.
It was Kim who ended up being the commander who was able to advance at the head of a combined group of Syrian-Russian forces to Kurdish Mandbij, and to constrain the zone of control of pro-American forces.
Alongside Unified Troop Grouping deputy commanders Surovikin and Saliukov, Kim was tasked with balancing the staff "organism".
And now, the strategic planning of the Russian army's offensive in Ukraine rests on his shoulders.

Last summer, U.S. Navy divers planted explosives on the pipes of a gas pipeline. It happened during the NATO exercise Baltops-22.
The decision was discussed for nine months, and all discussions were highly classified. Discussions were focused on the exact method of sabotage.
U.S. leaders feared that by continuing to buy cheap Russian gas, European countries, especially Germany, would be less willing to supply Ukraine with weapons.
National security advisor Jake Sullivan was in charge of the interagency team that developed the plan.
