McCarthy and VP Harris make small talk, some of which you can hear on a hot mic
George Santos is talking with Mitt Romney
Kyrsten Sinema has quite the outfit on
Bernie Sanders is still masking. First one I've seen.
Bono and Paul Pelosi are in the house for SOTU

I want an oral history of the meeting where Tucker Carlson decided to go all on doing the bidding of big tobacco
SCOTUS is in the house to a round of applause (I'm assuming mostly from Republicans)
Dark Brandon Arrives
"You can smile, it's ok"
"By the way, Chief Justice, I may need a court order. She gets to the game next week, I have to stay home. We have to work something out here" -- Biden
Biden begins SOTU with a gracious congratulations for Kevin McCarthy. He jokes that, "I don't want to ruin your reputation, but I look forward to working with you."
"I want to give special recognition to someone who I think is going to be considered the greatest Speaker in the history of the House: Nancy Pelosi" -- Biden
Kevin McCarthy refuses to applaud after Biden touts his historic record of job creation
Biden: "To my Republican friends, if we can work together last Congress, there is no reason we cannot work together and find consensus in this Congress as well ... conflict for the sake of conflict gets us nowhere."
How can McCarthy not applaud this line? Sheesh
McCarthy refuses to applaud for historically low unemployment
lmao Ted Cruz looks so sad
Joe Manchin is sitting on his hands as Biden talks about the importance of infrastructure
McCarthy looks like he just got pickpocketed
"I'll see you at the groundbreaking!" -- Biden to Republicans who voted against the infrastructure bill
Biden announces a new standard requiring construction materials in federal infrastructure projects to be made in America
Kevin McCarthy refuses to applaud for affordable insulin
LMAO Sinema and Romney
McCarthy refuses to applaud for investments in climate sustainability
"We're still going to need oil and gas for a while"

*Republicans start bellowing*
McCarthy refuses to applaud for billionaires not paying a lower tax rate than teachers or firefighters
Republicans laugh at Biden when he suggests oil production could be phrased out after a decade. McCarthy then doesn't applaud when Biden proposes increasing taxes on stock buybacks.
Manchin looks unsure if he was supposed to applaud here
Republicans groan when Biden points out that Trump blew up the federal budget
Marjorie Taylor Greene and other Republicans yell as Biden talks about the desire some of them have to chip away at the social safety net
McCarthy refuses to applaud for the wealthy and big corporations paying their fair share in taxes
McCarthy shakes his head in disapproval after Biden brings up the importance of labor organizing, then refuses to applaud for family leave and the child tax credit
McCarthy doesn't applaud for expanding access to preschool and giving teachers raises
Merrick Garland applauds to prosecuting Covid relief money fraud
Biden introduces the parents of Tyre Nichols and talks about the plight of systemic racism and police brutality
"Ban assault weapons now! Ban them now!" -- Biden

(Lauren Boebert responds by shaking her head)
Kevin McCarthy refuses to applaud for coming together on immigration reform
Ted Cruz shakes his head when Biden talks about more funding for border security. Kevin McCarthy then refuses to stand for protecting reproductive rights.
Kevin McCarthy refuses to applaud for LGBT young people living in safety and dignity
McCarthy refuses to applaud for shooting down the Chinese spy balloon
Republicans get mad (?) when Biden points out the scourge of fentanyl
If you appreciate this thread, please show me some love and support by subscribing to my newsletter. I have a piece coming tomorrow about the silliness of talk of primarying Biden that I think you'll like. Thank you! aaronrupar.substack.com/subscribe
McCarthy doesn't applaud when Biden says the state of the union is strong
Biden closes by saying "I stand here tonight have served about as long as any of you have ever served here. But I've never been more optimistic about our future ... there's nothing beyond our capacity if we do it together." And his second SOTU is over.
some of Biden's post-SOTU conversations were caught on a hot mic. I'll let you try to make heads or tails of it.
some of Biden's conversations with SCOTUS justices were also caught on a hot mic. Again, I'll let you try to figure out what exactly was said.
"Just don't tell the guy from West Virginia that" -- Biden on a hot mic about Joe Manchin (I think)
Debbie Dingell to Biden: "I stayed out of respect. You know, it's the anniversary of John's death."

Biden: "It was Beau's death two days ago."

Debbie: "They're up there watching"

Biden: "I believe it"
Sarah Huckabee Sanders begins her SOTU response by basically calling Biden a liar, which is something she's certainly an expert at
"woke mob" -- drink!
"It's time for a new generation of Republican leadership" -- Sarah Huckabee Sanders 👀
Sarah Huckabee Sanders mixes in the second "woke" of her speech (drink!) and blames the left for the culture war (that's rich!) that she claims Republicans "don't want to fight."
Meanwhile, Trump is apparently watching Trump's speech on like a 30 minute delay lol
partial list of things McCarthy refused to applaud at SOTU
-Low unemployment
-Affordable insulin
-Billionaires not paying lower tax rate than teachers
-The wealthy paying their fair share in taxes
-LGBT young people living in safety and dignity
-Family leave and child tax credit
The policy agenda Biden outlined is overwhelmingly popular and McCarthy wouldn't applaud for most of it. Bold strategy.

Elizabeth Wilkins: "People are looking for different ideas. The bad version is that an undermining of people's faith in democracy leads to authoritarianism. The good version is that we get together to think about what we need in terms of power the ideas and the people to create a new common sense -- one that brings us back for the modern era to that marriage of democracy and capitalism, where democracy shapes markets for the public good."
@PatrioticMills @SnapStream Patriotic Millionaires founder Erica Payne: "Here's what happened. Doesn't matter who's in charge. Tax rates for the rich always go down."

Maria Bartiromo on a weaker than expected February jobs report: "The jobs picture is weakening. Weaker than expected jobs again in the month of February tells you that the Fed is gonna cut rates!"
BARTIROMO: We've got a meeting coming up. Does anyone on this panel think the Fed is gonna cut rates at the next meeting?

STEPHEN MOORE: Well, I don't think they should. I just don't see a case for lower interest rates right now. We still have inflation at the 3-4% range.

BARTIROMO: True
Bartiromo: "It would be Biden's recession."
