Sean McElwee, the founding executive director of the polling outfit Data for Progress, has reportedly advised FTX's Sam Bankman-Fried during his quest to go from complete unknown to political player.

levernews.com/washingtons-32…
Bankman-Fried began by bankrolling a super PAC, called Protect Our Future, that intervened in Dem primaries.

Protect our Future spent $1 million to help reelect Shontel Brown, who was facing a competitive primary challenge from progressive Nina Turner.

levernews.com/washingtons-32…
Bankman-Fried and FTX helped launch a crypto lobbying group called the Association for Digital Asset Market (ADAM), which pushed to kneecap the aggressive new leadership of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Our small, scrappy team of investigative reporters has spent this election cycle digging up stories that mainstream outlets and elites typically overlook but are of grave importance.

Take a look at what we've covered this election cycle.

NEW, with @propublica:

An elderly, ultra-secretive Chicago businessman has given the largest known donation to a political advocacy group in U.S. history — worth $1.6 billion.

🧵

The recipient is a new dark money group run by Trump judicial adviser Leonard Leo, who helped eliminate federal abortion rights.

Leo will now use the money to finance his already sprawling network.

“To my knowledge, it is entirely without precedent for a political operative to be given control of such an astonishing amount of money,” @brendan_fischer, of @ItsDocumented

Roe was overturned today because of a legal scheme employed over years, backed by incredible sums of money.

The Supreme Court’s devastating Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, handed down today, illustrates how the multi-faceted scheme works in practice. 1/4
Miss. Republican AG Lynn Fitch led the case to overturn Roe. Fitch, who benefited from $225,000 in donations and spending by the Concord Fund-backed RAGA in her 2018 race, asked the Supreme Court to uphold a Mississippi law that would ban most abortions at 15 weeks... 2/4
...even in cases of rape or incest. Eighteen Republican attorneys general filed a brief supporting Mississippi’s petition, as did a dozen Republican governors. The Concord Fund has donated $1 million to the Republican Governors Association this election cycle. 3/4

A devastating passage from the dissenting opinion: "The Mississippi law at issue here bars abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy. Under the majority’s ruling, though, another State’s law could do so after ten weeks, or five or ... from the moment of fertilization. 1/6
"States have already passed such laws, in anticipation of today’s ruling. More will follow. Some States have enacted laws extending to all forms of abortion procedure, including taking medication in one’s own home. 2/6
"They have passed laws without any exceptions for when the woman is the victim of rape or incest. Under those laws, a woman will have to bear her rapist’s child or a young girl her father’s—no matter if doing so will destroy her life. 3/6
