“AirDNA found that from February 2017 to January 2023, Airbnb & Vrbo listings in Phoenix more than quadrupled, growing from 5,000 to 21,000.” 😳 #HomesNotHotels#CommunityNotCommodity
Arizona’s misguided 2016 state level STR preemption law that striped cities of the power to limit the # of short term rentals set the stage for this wild speculation & over saturation of the STR market by investors looking for easy money.
The STR industry is currently lobbying the #TXLege for a similar law here, so if you want to avoid this outcome in TX, please email/call your state senator & rep & ask them not to support any bill that would strip cities of the power to zone & regulate STRs. #DontArizonaMyTexas

Once again, @TexasTREPAC is lobbying the #TXLege to strip TX cities of the power to regulate, zone or limit the # of short term rentals in their communities to preserve & protect long-term housing & residents’ safety, quality of life & sense of community. 1/4
TREPAC wrongly claims property owners have a “fundamental right to lease” a property as a STR, ignoring that STR guests are not granted a lease. According to Airbnb’s own terms of service, guests are merely granted a limited license. 2/4
@TexasTREPAC talks about the importance of “property rights”, but shows no respect or consideration for the property rights of its clients who bought homes in residential zones *in reliance* on that zoning because they wanted to live amongst a stable community of neighbors. 3/4
