Join me in a descent into madness as I try to make progress in identifying yet another wreckage of a russian Ka-52.

This time, "the one with the cross and the 'gator graffiti"
First of all, its location was already known, described as near the Sukhanove village in Beryslav region of Kherson oblast. But the date is not known. It was discovered after the "right bank" of the Kherson oblast was liberated, so that would likely give september-november 2022.
Now, I was spending my Sunday crosschecking obituaries of dead russian aviators (as one does) when I found a new piece of information on one of them.
Butorin (see quoted), a Ka-52 navigator, died 12.10.2022... near Sukhanove village in Kherson oblast

Now, 12th of October is the date when UAF reported 4 helis taken down in 18 minutes and ended the day with +5 in the helis column of the stats, but whether or not that is true, we do have a match! I don't think it's likely there's a second undiscovered Ka-52 near that village
There are multiple strong sources for Butorin serving in 55 OVP (Korenovsk). So all that's left is to identify a Ka-52 airframe from 55 OVP that would fit the wreckage. Is that even possible? I think so. Because of this piece
It's okay if you don't recognize it. There's a trick: it's upside down. And the thingy you see sticking out at the top is usually sticking out at the bottom – of the tail rudder. Some light or whatever. Also, c/n is usually written at the bottom, but broken off on our piece :C
For clarity, i've reconstructed what the full piece would look like, if it was whole. We're seeing the right side of the airframe. Unfortunately, depending on which frames i take, i get a slightly different result (because it wasn't filmed directly from above in a single shot).
But it doesn't really matter. The camo is painted in the same scheme, i.e. the general splashes of color are the same, but they are applied by hand and vary a lot actually. Being identifiable just like zebra's stripes or fingerprint patterns.
Now the madness part. All we have to do is take the photos of all the airframes in 55OVP, their right sides, that show the rudder and find a match. And woo boy, does that take time. And the toughest part isn't even the comparison, but finding the photos in the first place
Results. Let's go. Twitter allows just 4 images per tweet.
RF-13400 (70 red), RF-13401 (71 red), RF-13402 (72 red), RF-13403 (73 red)
RF-13409 (74 red) and RF-13411 (76 red) are known losses from march, skipping.

Here are RF-13410 (75 red), RF-13412 (77 red), RF-13414 (79 red), RF-13415 (80 red)
RF-13416 (81 red), RF-13434 (82 red), RF-13422 (83 red), RF-13423 (84 red)
RF-13424 (85 red), RF-13425 (86 red), RF-13426 (87 red), RF-13428 (89 red)
And finally RF-13429 (90 red).
I also skipped RF-13413 (78 red), but not because I wanted to. Unfortunately, I only have photos showing it from the left side. Couldn't find any of the right side showing the rudder – so far.
I do not think any of them make the match, unfortunately. Some look closer than others, though. Some are way off. Or it might be that missing one RF-13413 (78 red). Or some other airframes from 55 ovp that i just don't know about and haven't listed (@GuyPlopsky, help)
Of course, there's also the case that the pilot from 55 ovp _could_ have been in an airframe _not_ from 55 ovp. So maybe I should widen this search to all camo ones. But for now I'll just stare at these ones some more.
the elusive 78 red doesn't look like it's matching any better than most others.
Maybe yes, maybe no. Kovalev's obituary mentions he lives & does stuff in Korenovsk, definitely served there at least in the past, but then went to Crimea (i.e. 39ovp Dzhankoi – many of its Ka-52 come from Korenovsk). Not sure yet of his unit on death.

Tu-22M3 that crashed in Irkutsk obl. on 15.08.2024 is RF-94238, 78 red.
Previous photos of RF-94238 were from 2014, airfield Belaya, when it was 22 red and in storage. And then it was active as 31 red in 2020? Dunno what's going on.

Maybe not in storage in 2014. I got confused about the photo description.
The quoted tweet actually had RF-94230. Oops, sorry. But this airframe still had its number changed in the last 10 years and likely was in storage / refurbished from the storage. That might be why it failed.

Someone noticed a shot down plane near Svatove (49.35887, 38.03480) on satellite imagery. Most likely this is a russian Su-34, s/d around 02-06 oct 2022. This is not a previously known loss, so should be added to lists.
Attached image is Maxar WV03 from 2023-09-06 Image
Very clearly seen on Sentinel 2 imagery on 8th of October 2022 and very clearly NOT seen on 18th of September. The days in between are too cloudy.
I also have images I'm not allowed to publish from 24 Sep where it's clearly not there and 7th Oct where it's clearly there.

A person that noticed it narrowed the range down to 02-06th of October. I haven't seen proof of that, but I also don't have a reason not to believe. Nothing on FIRMS, doesn't look like there was a big fire. No known obituaries for those dates, the crew probably ejected.

I don't know how much this is worth posting, but whatever.
A recent video from ru ministry of offense shows a su-25 marked su-25sm3-117. The numbers are blurred, but it's 19 red.
it's temporarily not shot down yet and seems to be a freshly upgraded airframe Image
first of all, 117 in the signage there is a unique sequencial number. when they started updating su-25 to su-25sm in like 2007, they were marking them like su-25sm-01, su-25sm-02, etc. The latest known was su-25sm-84. Then sm3 mod came along and it was like su25-sm3-01, -02 etc.
but after su25-sm3-09 they thought "well, that's dumb" and with next one jumped back up to su25-sm3-90, su-25-sm3-91, etc. The highest known from 2018 was #100. The fact that they're up to 117 now means about 3-4 airframes upgraded per year.

Another one of the russian Ka-52 helicopters with blades taken off in the Luhansk airport video can be identified as "58 blue" from 16 braa (zernograd)
Image
Image
It's tough to ID an airframe that is far away and only some pixels are visible. However, the russians "decided" to help and had a huge red & white paint job on the nose cone of one helicopter that is clearly visible in the video – as well seen previously.

In case you're not sure that those previous shots were from Luhansk airport, the russians took a photo in front of it, where tha can be clearly seen. You can see the paint job there too Image

If you browse google maps (which few months ago updated with about march 2022 images), you can see this at coordinates 50.03616, 36.52119
(2GPC+FF8 Elitne, Kharkiv Oblast)
And a valid question would be "what's that? an aircraft wreck?"
Well, it kinda looks like one, but also not? Either way, it's not that far from Elitne village, where the russian Mi-28N helicopter with r/n RF-13628 (65 red, 332 ovp, p/n=11-02, full s/n=34012843422) was shot down, but reported only in May 2022 after the area was much safer

There wasn't a shotdown date known with any precision publicly for it, just a mention from NGU that at some point after three russian helicopters fired their armament in the Elitne area, one of them was successfully hit and left laying in the field since.
