Hon'ble Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shri R K Singh virtually inaugurated the NTPC Techno-Galaxy Exhibition at IPS 2023, Raipur today.
The Hon'ble Minister in his address at the inaugural ceremony said,“India is committed to providing reliable and affordable power supply to people while keeping environmental concerns as the core priority."
9.6 railway rakes per day were supplied to Punjab last year from the coal mines.
The number of rakes per day Punjab is getting in the current year by rail is more than the number of rakes per day Punjab (13.8 rakes per day) was getting in the previous year.
Punjab wanted even more coal.
This additional coal could be given only from MCL.
However, because of congestion in railway network and non-availability of rakes, it is not possible to take out additional rakes from MCL area through the railway route to the plants of Northern and Western parts of the country.
The import of coal for blending has always been happening.
In 2013-14, for example it was 38.5 million tonnes. In 2018-19, it was 23 million tonnes. In 2019-20, it was 23.8 million tonnes. In 2022-23, the import for blending has been 12.2 million tonnes.
Our power demand grew by 15 to 20% in energy terms from August / September, 2021 onwards.
The domestic coal supplies increased, but not enough to meet demand.
There has been a steady decrease in the losses in the electricity Distribution Network (AT&C Losses) in the country over the past 15 years, wherein these losses have reduced from 25.72% in the year 2014-15 to 21.83% in the year 2019-20.
Due to various reforms taken up by GoI and the state governments, more states have moved from higher distribution loss (AT&C loss) levels to lower AT&C loss levels over the last 10 years.
The following distribution utilities have registered AT&C loss of less than 15% in FY 2019-20.
A meeting was called by Secretary , Power , GoI to proactively finalize the Guidelines on developing cyclone resilient distribution and transmission infrastructure .
Apart from officials of Ministry of Power , officials of the CEA and those of cyclone affected States as well as the officials of CPSUs working under the Ministry were present in the meeting .
Under the Guidelines , the DISCOMs are to set up cyclone resilient infrastructure in the coastal belt Upto 20 kM from the coastline and thereafter , progressively upto 60 kM.
Ministry of Power has constituted a Task Force on Cyclone Resilient Robust Electricity Transmission & Distribution infrastructure in coastal areas of the country to examine types & nature of damages to electricity infrastructure and to recommend preventive & mitigation measures.
Measures include various emergency preparedness plan, Design & Technological aspect, steps to be taken by utilities for capacity building to create cyclone resilient infrastructure to shorten restoration time (including ERS) and limit the impact of disaster.
Preparedness plan is to:
•Meet any contingency
•Reduce response time for assistance.
•Identify major resources, man power, materials etc. for making the plan operational
•Optimum use of available resources
•Improve the plan periodically based on learning over the time
Hon’ble Prime Minister has appealed to the people to voluntarily switch off their lights between 9:00 pm to 9:09 pm on the 5th of April. #IndiaFightsCorona
Some apprehensions have been expressed that this may cause instability in the grid and fluctuation in voltage which may harm the electrical appliances. These apprehensions are misplaced. #PoweringIndia
The Indian electricity grid is robust, stable and adequate arrangements and protocols are in place to handle the variation in demand. #PoweringIndia#IndiaFightsCorona
