1) Mercenaries are fighters who are money oriented without any cause; they can’t die for you before they eat their money. I hear in DRC they are paid thousands of dollars after the leaders have taken their share of the money.
The history of mercenaries in DRC is not new
THREAD
2) The story of mercenaries in DRC is older as the problem of Congolese Kinyarwanda Speakers. In 1965 Congolese army recruited mercenaries known as “ 5 Commando” Unit to fight a Communist-inspired rebellion that broke out in the Congo province of Kwilu.
3) In 1967, on national Radio the then President of Congo, Mobutu Sese Seko described President of Rwanda Kayibanda as a
"Short President, without glasses...leading a small country" after he received Col Jean Schramme and his mercenaries following their defeat in Bukavu
4) In 1997 President Mobutu recruited the White Legion, a mercenary unit from Ex Yugoslavia during the First Congo War (1996-1997) with the task of defending the city of Kisangani. This effort was largely unsuccessful and in mid-March 1997 the mercenaries left the country
5) In 1998, President LD Kabila recruited Rwandan mercenaries made by genocide fugitives who had fled to Congo Brazza, Central Africa Republic and Malawi. They were led by Gen Augustin Bizimungu, Maj Leodomir Mugaragu, Maj Protais Mpiranya, Maj Mudacumura
6) President Laurent Desire Kabila mobilized three brigades made up of former Ex-FAR and Interahamwe militia.
He vowed to march to Kigali and bulldoze entire Rwanda to make it the biggest Congolese Airport.
7) In July 2022, President Tshisekedi was asked on plans to use the Wegner Group mercenaries, during his interview with @FT and he said
“I know it’s fashionable now . . [but] no, we don’t need to use mercenaries, I don’t even know where to find them.” who believes Tshisekedi?

1) In memory of BRALIRWA workers killed today in 1998. It was on the morning of January 19, 1998, when the Bus carrying around 80 BRALIRWA workers was ambushed, in the former Nyamyumba commune now in Rubavu District by ALiR/FDLR during the insurgency in the north

2) When the assailants stopped the bus, they shot at the tyres and ordered its passengers to separate on ethnic lines and workers refused while saying "we are all Rwandans". The response enraged them, who started shooting indiscriminately before setting the bus on fire.
3) The assailants poured petrol over it and set it alight. Many passengers were trapped inside and were burned alive. When RPA soldiers intervened at the scene, many of the bodies were unrecognizable as they had been burned to cinders.
1) Thank you @FirstLadyRwanda and @UnityClubRw for honoring late Father Stanislas De Jamblinne who protected Tutsi during their massacre in 1960s. He also contributed to the development of Bufundu (former region of southern Gikongoro Prefecture), by electing roads and bridges...
2) Father de Jamblinne also taught locals various trades like carpentry, masonry, and driving. He helped to build health centres and schools. Father Stanislas de Jamblinne was born in Brussels, Belgium in 1922.
3) He served as a priest in various parts of Rwanda, including Nyagahanga and Rushaki in Byumba, Rwaza and Runaba in Ruhengeri Diocese, Rusumo in Kibungo Diocese, Cyanika and Kaduha in Butare Diocese.
2) Following the Campaign to Stop the Genocide by RPA, the genocidal forces fled to DRC and were not disarmed. They lived in refugee camps located just in 2km from the Rwandan border..they started to infiltrate Rwanda and killed survivors and those suspected as RPF collaborators
3) Young Congolese activists should know what happened between Aug-Oct 1996.
i) South Kivu Deputy Governor Lwasi Ngabo Lwabanji gave Tutsi/Banyamulenge of South Kivu seven days to leave Zaire and go back to Rwanda.
Interahamwe had already started killing Tutsi in both Kivus
1) In Oct 1990, following the RPA attack, President Mobutu sent soldiers of his Elite Protection Unit (DSP) to support Habyarimana, RPF reminded him (by sending his captured soldiers) that it was a Rwandan problem that should be addressed by Rwandans ...
2) The legacy of Zairean Soldiers in Rwanda in 1990, especially in Mutara and Kigali was looting..especially livestock..drinking in Bars without paying to the level that Habyarimana himself who asked for the support sent them back to Zaire

1) Young man Emmanuel Rwerekana was falsely charged for killing Dian Fossey (Nyiramacibiri) on Dec 26, 1985. He was arrested and killed the next day inside the prison by Habyarimana's inner circle and charges were dropped after his death. Why Emmanuel was killed?
2) Diana Fossey was killed by Protais Zigiranyirazo who was the Governor of Ruhengeli and brother in law of President Habyarimana because of her opposition to baby gorillas poaching which was a very paying business in 1980s
3) Emmanuel Rwerekana was a worker of another American Researcher Wayne Richard McGuire who was accused by Habyarimana's Government of killing Diana Fossey and he was immediately exfiltrated by US Embassy ....Emmanuel had to pay the price ...
1) For those that struggle with the terminology of the Genocide against the Tutsi, I would like to share the story of Immaculé who is currently serving a sentence of 30 years at Mageragere for committing genocide & hunted down her own two children who were fathered by Tutsi men.
2) Immaculé Mujawamariya was a known serial killer in the Masaka-Kanombe area who had a military background as she had completed short military courses at Kanombe Military Barracks. She was known to carry a gun. (Pistol)
3) Immacule’s son fled to the DRC camps with his grandmother but when he met his mother in DRC, she tortured him and wanted to kill him but the grandmother (who he considers a his real mother, as Immacule is a beast to him) intervened and they returned to Rwanda. #Kwibuka28
