TOMORROW I will testify before the @councilofdc on behalf of The Legal Accountability Project at the JPS Hrg about urgently needed reforms to & oversight over the DC Commission on Judicial Disabilities and Tenure (CJDT), the regulatory body for DC judges.
TOMORROW I will testify before the @councilofdc on behalf of The Legal Accountability Project at the JPS Hrg about urgently needed reforms to & oversight over the DC Commission on Judicial Disabilities and Tenure (CJDT), the regulatory body for DC judges.
I'll propose changes including: data collection and dissemination requirements; increased transparency in CJDT processes; clarification of rules and procedures; and membership and leadership changes that recognize the sensitivity of the issues the CJDT handles.
These changes will increase confidence in DC's local court system, which is important not only for the law clerks and other judiciary employees who go to work in our courts every day, but also for the litigants and attorneys who appear before the court.
New attys graduate from law schools across the country each year and move to DC to launch their careers, particularly careers in public interest, by clerking in the D.C. Courts. We owe it to the next generation of attorneys to ensure that their workplaces are safe.
My experience w/ the CJDT illustrates that reforms are urgently needed. D.C. Courts law clerks should not be forced to suffer the consequences of institutional failures. I appreciate the opportunity to advocate for reform. #judicialaccountability #clerkships
