Day #17 - We are back in Court this morning continuing with Dr. Riemer. Dick is doing the cross-examination. #MurdaughTrial
She was not shown photos of the back of Maggie's calf that were taken at the scene. Dick is looking for them to show her. #MurdaughTrial
The photo is not evidence and Poot is taking a long time to find it.
Dr. Riemer did not document in her report that there was a bruise on Maggie's left leg. She did not observe that in autopsy. #MurdaughTrial
It was mud and could have fallen off. #MurdaughTrial
She was shot one time from behind her, and shot one time from above her. Dr. Riemer testifies that she did not specifically say the shooter was circling her, but the shooter was moving. Maggie also could have ben moving and could have been turning. #MurdaughTrial
The barrel of the gun was 3 feet away, not necessarily the shooter was 3 feet away. #MurdaughTrial
The injury to the pancreas and kidney was on the right side of the abdomen. That one would have been super painful and may have caused her to double over. #MurdaughTrial
Dr. Riemer seems a little more flustered (in my opinion) with Dick cross examining her than she did with Creighton. #MurdaughTrial
At the time, she did the autopsy report without any reference to the scene. #MurdaughTrial
Paul was upright when the first shot was made. It goes in his chest. It was a close range shot - closer than 3 feet. It was shot an angle across, so that might indicate his body was positioned perpendicular to the shooter. #MurdaughTrial
She is confident his arm was down by his side because there's bruising around the exit wounds and corresponding bruising on the underside of the arm which indicates they were in close proximity. #MurdaughTrial
The shooter was to Paul's right shooting across and that shooter would have been closer than 3 feet. #MurdaughTrial
It's possible that Paul stepped in his own blood. #MurdaughTrial
Dick is demonstrating with Barber. Dr. Riemer steps down to assist in the demonstration. #MurdaughTrial
Beveling is a pattern of defect through a bone. So when there's a gunshot wound and hole is left, Dr. Riemer can tell which one is the entrance and which one is the exit because of the way the bone bevels. #MurdaughTrial
Dick is definitely going for confusion here. I'm not understanding this line of questioning and where it's going! #MurdaughTrial
The fact his face was spared from damage indicates to Dr. Riemer that Paul's face was somewhat turned. The pellets would have done a lot of damage to the face if he had not been turned. #MurdaughTrial
Side Note: it looks like a few less people are in the Courtroom today. And the ones that are, only a handful are masked. #MurdaughTrial
There are a significant number of pellets in Paul's neck. Dr. Riemer did not remove all of them. Removing them is a lot harder than it looks. It can take an hour to get just one pellet. #MurdaughTrial
They are viewing a photo of Paul's teeth (that we can't see) that show no fracture to his teeth. #MurdaughTrial

Again - - what are we doing here? Why are we asking these questions?
Theory: Maybe Dick is going through this to show how gruesome it is so the jury can 1) see Alex's reaction and 2) get it in their minds that a father and husband couldn't do this extensive damage to their wife and child. #MurdaughTrial
They are still demonstrating on Mr. Barber. Showing again that Paul's head was angled. #MurdaughTrial
Dr. Riemer goes back on the witness stand. Dick asks her if she is familiar with a book - don't know the title but it's a book on gunshot wounds. #MurdaughTrial
We are all Dr. Riemer - - "What are asking me about?"#MurdaughTrial
Dick is asking about gases, etc... I'm lost! #MurdaughTrial
Dick wants to know if gas would have entered the body and been destructive at 4 feet away. #MurdaughTrial
She is not sure if gas would be the contributor or if other factors would be. Dick keeps trying to get her to say this book is the "Gunshot Bible" and she's like, "it's a good resource, but not what you're trying to make it out to be." #MurdaughTrial
I know good and well Dick is not trying to insinuate Paul shot himself. I know not!!!!! #MurdaughTrial
Dr. Riemer is leaving the witness stand again. The monitor in front of Alex is still covered. Alex looks restless. #MurdaughTrial
A shotgun pattern starts out as the same size as the shell, then it expands and it continues to expand even after it hits something.

SIDE NOTE: I do NOT like how Dick just spoke to Dr. Riemer telling her to answer the question first, then explain. He could've said that nicer!
There were no pellets in the front of Paul's face. There's so much destruction that you can't detect and easily track the path of the projectiles. #MurdaughTrial
Dick says - The gas enters first, explodes the skull, then brain pops out. Dr. Riemer does not think the brain would popped out the way it did ... then she kinda trailed off/was away from mic and I didn't hear the rest of her statement. #MurdaughTrial
Dick shows her a photo of Paul at the scene, the way he was found. Dr. Riemer has not seen this photo. #MurdaughTrial
Beveling is not reliable when there is so much damage to the head. Dr. Riemer did not shave Paul's head. She did shave Maggie's. #MurdaughTrial
Shaving is typically for an entrance would, not an exit wound. #MurdaughTrial
Dick is trying to say this super knowledgeable, experienced woman didn't do her job correctly! I know that's HIS job, but come on man!!! #MurdaughTrial
"It doesn't change the truth." ~Dr. Riemer #MurdaughTrial
The fractures of Paul's skull are not consistent with a contact wound. #MurdaughTrial
Dr. Riemer seems to be getting slightly fed up with Dick. #MurdaughTrial
Dr. Riemer confirms that the entrance wound is in the shoulder. Dick is offering that the shoulder wound could be the exit wound. He asks again if two people could look at this and have a difference of opinion. #MurdaughTrial
Dr. Riemer performs autopsies to determine the cause and manner of death. She examines the body and comes to a conclusion based on her experience and knowledge. Her job is to look at the body, not the crime scene. The scene is not incorporated into her conclusion. #MurdaughTrial
Paul's chest wound had stippling. Stippling is pieces of gunpowder deposited on the victim. Soot is real burning powder, from gun powder that's still hot. Soot is only there when the shot was within a few inches. #MurdaughTrial
Dr. Riemer saw no evidence of a contact wound with Paul. #MurdaughTrial
Dr. Riemer does not believe the damage was consistent with the shot coming through Paul's head and exiting the shoulder. #MurdaughTrial
There was no wadding in Paul's head cavity. #MurdaughTrial
Dr. Riemer comes to her conclusions by looking at the body, not crime scene photos. #MurdaughTrial
Next witness is Devin Newell. He is the Sr. Tech Expert from GM. #MurdaughTrial
Records are kept on servers that are used for field performance investigations. #MurdaughTrial
Modern GM vehicles upload info to GM servers. Those modules collect lots of data. GM keeps that info in the course of normal business. #MurdaughTrial
The data that is collected does include GPS data. #MurdaughTrial
SLED did send a search warrant to GM. He reads the VIN number that was on the search warrant. #MurdaughTrial
Search warrant was served in March. Mr. Newell became aware of the requested info/data on Feb 10th - last Friday. #MurdaughTrial
Next witness is Roger Dale Davis, Jr. (Goes by Dale.) More issues with the mic. He's done construction work all of this life. He worked the farm at Moselle - a mile and a half from where he lives. #MurdaughTrial
Twice a day he fed the dogs and chickens and washed the pens out. For about 4 years. It takes him about 45 minutes. #MurdaughTrial
Gotta go do a little work for my real job... BRB! #MurdaughTrial
I'm back with Carson Burney on the stand. I did listen to Dale's testimony. I like him!! :-) #MurdaughTrial
I thought and hoped we were done with the financial stuff. But maybe we'll find out where the money went.... #MurdaughTrial
This is boring and redundant for us because we already heard his testimony in camera. Let's see if he provides anything new. #MurdaughTrial
Jim is cross-examining Mr. Burney. Repeating information about using first in-first out method. We're back to a trial within a trial. #MurdaughTrial
Red Beard and Zero United are brought up. Have no clue what that is! But Burney has no idea what they would have been on 6/7/21 anyway so... #MurdaughTrial
Alex borrowed money from Parker to pay the Chris Wilson's fees. #MurdaughTrial
From Burney's tracing, about half a million of the $792K went to Curtis Eddie Smith. #MurdaughTrial
Burney was looking at liquid assets when he did his research. #MurdaughTrial
Burney has purchased a home and sold real estate once. That process took months. You don't get the money until closing. It would have taken some time for AM to get money from real estate holdings. #MurdaughTrial
Burney has not done a calculation himself of the figures that Mr. Griffin presented. #MurdaughTrial
Next witness is Maggie's sister, Marian Proctor. #MurdaughTrial
She grew up in Wilmington, NC. Maggie was her only sibling. Both went to college, married and lived in SC. She has 3 daughters and lives in Charleston. #MurdaughTrial
Her and Maggie were 5 years apart in age. Terry and Kennedy are their parents. #MurdaughTrial
They weren't super close as children, but they grew closer as their lives became more similar. #MurdaughTrial
They had some really good times when they became empty nesters. #MurdaughTrial
Maggie was sweet, a free spirit, up for anything going on, loved her boys, they were her world, loved their parents, joked about growing old and taking care of them. Maggie was a girl's girl but she made the best of having 2 boys. She would hunt & fish with them. #MurdaughTrial
Doesn't sound like she would actually hunt or fish, but she would be out there with the boys. #MurdaughTrial
They attended sporting events together, even though they were rooting for rival teams. #MurdaughTrial
Maggie was mostly a stay at home mom. She and Ms. Libby had a little shop in Hampton for a while. #MurdaughTrial
Paul was a sweet, misrepresented in the media, had such a kind side to him, always wanting to help, he was a kind soul and she loved him a lot. #MurdaughTrial
Maggie was not involved in the family finances. They had a comfortable life. She wouldn't call it lavish (but I would). #MurdaughTrial
Maggie didn't balance the checkbook. Organization was not her best skill. She'd have her checkbook on the floor of her car with all of her other stuff (like maybe her wedding ring). #MurdaughTrial
Ms. Libby is in bed all day, doesn't recognize her family and has to have help doing everything. Her condition was about the same on 6/7/21. Mr. Randolph was also very sick. As we know, he passed on 6/10/21. #MurdaughTrial
They got the Edisto beach house maybe 15 years ago. She really doesn't know. Moselle was their most recent property. Great set up for hunting. Lots of bed for Alex's friends to come out and hunt. Not Maggie's favorite place to be, but the boys loved it. #MurdaughTrial
The boat crash was a devastating blow for their family, but it was an accident. However, Maggie felt like the Hampton community turned against her. Inappropriate things were said to Paul. It was very hard and stressful on the family. #MurdaughTrial
This is also why Maggie preferred staying in Edisto. She has been looking for another house. They sold their Hampton house and she was looking in the Hilton Head/Bluffton area. She found one house she loved. They all went to look at it. But they ended up not making an offer.
Timing was not right with the boat case going on. #MurdaughTrial
6/7 - AM said he needed her to come home, Paul was going to be there too. Mr. Randolph wasn't doing well. She told Maggie to go be with him. #MurdaughTrial
She was under the impression they were going to Almeda to visit his sick parents. #MurdaughTrial
On 6/7, she was having some work done at Edisto to prepare the home for the Summer. #MurdaughTrial
6/7 was the last time she talked to Maggie after encouraging her to go to Moselle to meet Alex. She loved to call Marian while she was driving. Their call was about 4 PM. #MurdaughTrial
Gotta go get my kid...

Lord, this is sad... yall take care of yourselves. Give yourself some extra love on this love day. #MurdaughTrial
We hear for the second time (that I recall) that Alex said he was going to "clear Paul's name" instead of focusing on finding the murderer(s). #MurdaughTrial
It made Maggie sad to see Ms. Libby in her condition. Alex would go everyday & sometimes more than once a day. #MurdaughTrial
Mr. Randolph was on the no-salt diet & they struggled trying to make meals for him. #MurdaughTrial
On 6/7, Mr. Randolph got admitted back into the hospital. #MurdaughTrial
Randy made the call to Proctor to tell her about Paul & Maggie being murdered. She and her husband told Maggie's parents in person about the murders. #MurdaughTrial
When they went to Moselle, Alex was devastated. #MurdaughTrial
Alex stayed at Moselld while Maggie stayed at Edisto because his work was close by. He had been asking her to come back & he did not like being alone. #MurdaughTrial
It was a very difficult time for everybody because Mr. Randolph passed 3 days after the murder. #MurdaughTrial
Buster & Alex stayed with Maggie's parents after the murders. He also stayed with his brothers. Per Jim, he was all over the place. He never stayed another night at Moselle. #MurdaughTrial
Maggie felt strongly that Paul was not driving the boat at the time of the accident that resulted in the passing of Mallory Beach. She was on a mission to clear Paul's name as well. #MurdaughTrial
Ms. Proctor is not critical of Alex wanting to clear Paul's name. She just felt like his priority was not finding the person or persons responsible for the murders. #MurdaughTrial
She claims Alex always carried a gun. #MurdaughTrial
Alex could control Bubba pretty well. Maggie was a dog lover & loved going down to the kennels. #MurdaughTrial
They didn't let the dogs go inside the house at Moselle because of allergies. They didn't go in the Edisto house either. They mostly were under the house. #MurdaughTrial
Maggie loved having the boys' friends around. #MurdaughTrial
Alex & Paul had a great relationship. The plan was for Paul to take over Moselle one day. #MurdaughTrial
Alex & Maggie's relationship wasn't perfect, but she was happy. #MurdaughTrial
Maggie told Marian she was going home so she could go with Alex to see his parents. #MurdaughTrial
Judge sends jury out. They'll discuss what happened in September. Marian briefly said something about September earlier, but then they moved on quickly. #MurdaughTrial
Marian was about to bring up the roadside shooting. #MurdaughTrial
I'll have to go back & listen to the exact question where she mentioned her mind changed in September. #MurdaughTrial
Cannot testify about the alleged affair. #MurdaughTrial
She can testify about finding out he got fired and about the drugs. #MurdaughTrial
On Sept 4th, they were headed to a football game and her husband got a call about Alex being shot. They were in hysterics and called Buster. She was scared Buster would be next. #MurdaughTrial
She had a conversation with Jim who told her that Alex had been fired from the law firm for stealing. #MurdaughTrial
They were on high alert and worried for Buster, but then more and more of the financial things that Alex was involved in were brought to light. They had no idea Alex was involved in these financial crimes. #MurdaughTrial
Maggie called Paul "Little Detective". She felt like he was always looking to make sure his dad was "behaving". The specific concern was prescription pain pills. #MurdaughTrial
Maggie had expressed concern to her about Alex's opiod use. #MurdaughTrial
If there were pills in the house, Paul was determined that he would get them out of the house. #MurdaughTrial
The story initially told by Alex about the roadside shooting ended up not being true. #MurdaughTrial
Next witness is Marian's husband of 37 years, Bart Proctor. #MurdaughTrial
IKTR Mr. Proctor, it's Valentine's Day, tell that jury how long you been married!!! #MurdaughTrial
He has heard the "kennel video". Creighton plays it again anyway. Of course he's going to ID Alex's voice. #MurdaughTrial
He points out Alex in the courtroom. He's 100% sure it's Alex's voice on the video. That's all Creighton asks. And her comes Jim!! #MurdaughTrial
Jim asked Bart if he was shown the blue raincoat. They were showed a picture of it. He did not recognize it, had not seen it before. That's all for Mr. Proctor. He steps down from the witness stand. #MurdaughTrial
No more witnesses are available today. Judge Newman tells them to go on home for Valentine's Day. We'll be back tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM! We know the routine by now! :-) #MurdaughTrial
Creighton says his witness had some personal issues, but he doesn't reveal who the witness is/was. #MurdaughTrial
Welp! Jury might have to come back! Judge says to have them hold for a moment. #MurdaughTrial
Memo filed by Defense before trial addresses all of the 404(b) stuff including the roadside shooting. #MurdaughTrial
Uh oh! Cousin Eddie is being brought up. But I gotta agree with Dick, this was AFTER the murders so... this does seem more prejudicial than probative. #MurdaughTrial
Creighton says he's not necessarily saying that he is going to call Cousin Eddie as a witness. #MurdaughTrial
Per @fitsnews, the witness that had a personal emergency & couldn't testify today was Agent Owen. #MurdaughTrial

Day #18 of the #MurdaughTrial. Judge Newman rules in favor of the Defense's Motion to Exclude (the roadside shooting)... for now. Will that trigger the State to bring in Cousin Eddie now??

Also, the jurors tested negative for COVID. 🙌🏾
State calls Agent David Owen. Began working with SLED in 2015. His entire time there has been with the Lowcountry. #MurdaughTrial
SLED is an assisting agency. Their presence has to be requested. #MurdaughTrial

Two jurors have tested positive for COVID. #MurdaughTrial
Are we down to 2 or 3 alternates now? #MurdaughTrial
UH OH! Dick is asking for delay in the trial to test the other jurors until Tuesday or Wednesday... #MurdaughTrial
