🧵Finally I visited the newly operational terminal 2 (T2) of Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru @BLRAirport, designed to the theme of garden city. Built at a cost of around Rs 5,000 crore, it's considered to be one of the most beautiful terminals of the world.
From hanging gardens that cascade down from the terminal roof on the bronze veils and bells suspended from the ceiling, T2 is a ‘terminal in a garden' @BLRAirport
Terminal and the area leading up to the boarding area has different shades of greens. 10,235 sqm of green walls, hanging gardens, green lagoons within the premises etc @BLRAirport
A total of 620 endemic plants, 3,600+ plant species, 150 palm species, 7,700 transplanted trees, 100 varieties of lilies, 96 lotus species and 180 rare, endangered and threatened species and 10 ecological habitats make up the lush green landscape at T2.
BIAL has used materials such as engineered bamboo (ceiling) & brick (walls).
T2 has a skylight area of 10,494 sqm which is almost 12% of the roof area
Floor inlay design based on the board games created by the 18th century Maharaja Sri Krishnaraja Wadiyar of Mysore.
With a 2.5 lakh sqm built-up area, T2 could handle 25 million passengers a year. T2 has 95 check-in counters, 17 security check lanes, 22 contact gates, 15 bus gates & nine baggage claim devices.
T2, the new 2.5 lakh sqm terminal, located on the northeastern side of Terminal 1 and is designed by New York-based architectural firm SOM @BLRAirport
Indoor plants at T2 grown in a soil-less, inert medium.
Bells & veils have independent water reservoirs & moisture levels are monitored by sensors. BIAL officials said water is supplied only when the plants ask for it through an intelligent system

🧵Gated communities on and off Yemalur Main Road, near HAL, east Bengaluru turn into ghost towns; residents flee, hundreds of luxury cars submerged
High-end cars remained submerged in flood waters, even as the residents grabbed bare essentials and made a quick exit from the layouts on Tuesday morning.

Luxury sedans and SUVs visible over murky waters at DivyaSree 77 East, where a premium villa costs around Rs 15 crore.
🧵 How tractors, locals turned saviours for gated community residents in Yemalur in Bengaluru.
Residents of gated communities and techies working in IT parks in Yemalur Main Road woke up to a nightmare on Monday morning. Rains on Sunday night caused water to gush into their building premises and basements.Their vehicles were submerged and power had run out in the buildings
A sea of water had taken the place of roads and cabs usually waiting to ferry them to work were replaced by JCBs and tractors.
