Sharing stories & snaps from a fan project called "Magiliw Storytelling"
Feb 14 is known the world over as V-Day, but it's also officially designated as "Intl. #BookGivingDay."
And for fans of Pinoy Pop (PPop) grp #ALAMAT, it is their launch anniversary since debuting in 2021
.@Official_ALAMAT champions Filipino languages & culture; incorporating diversity, historical & societal consciousness in their songs, music vids, fashion etc.
Their advocacies mirror those of #AklatAlamid,a Phil indep. publishing house
#GenSan City is found in Southern Philippines. A multicultural/lingual hub in Mindanao, its residents are a diverse mix of people from various ethnolinguistic backgrounds.
The morning was spent w/ kids, teachers & parents of Brgy South Daycare. The center is a stone's throw away (isang tumbling lang ang layo) from d sea.
Xaña Angel Eve Apolinar @xaema_, author of A.Alamid's "Gusto Mulupad ni Bangsi" told children the tale of a persevering fish.
The book is inspired by the bangsi (flying fish) of Maitum, Sarangani Province, the hometown of @xaema_. It is written in Mindanaoan Binisaya & Filipino.
Here's Xaña talking about the Magiliw Storytelling activity:
40+ kids were given books & Aki bookmarks. Games and morning exercises were facilitated by Development Communication students from NBSPI, a local private school.
That's for Venue 1 - we then proceeded to the next one+
After lunch time, we headed to the Brgy Hall where Brgy South Purok officials gathered gradeschoolers, youth, community workers, & city folk who were interested in joining the Storytelling activity.
There could have been more (said a volunteer) pero it was raining hard kaya +
(Who r they?) asked a kid, pointing to the #ALAMAT tarp.
This time, d Devcom ates taught d ABKD choreography to d kids.
Devcom works for d empowerment of d marginalized. As a program that advocates for d "advancement of human potential," @Official_ALAMAT#ALAMAT's advocacies also resonate w/ them.
Diane, Rhecca, Bhea, & Regine share a lil' something about their participation in d activity & their hometown: GenSan
This isn't their 1st time joining #ALAMAT-related activities as they distributed PCs & materials about @Official_ALAMAT during a local literary event last year
Most of d kids here are from impoverished backgrounds.
"Unsaon na, te?" (How do I that?) asked a kid who was eager to learn d dance.
"Lakang sa unahan nga ingun
Ani kab-ota ang pangan-doy mo."
"Bisaya lagi na?" remarked an amused purok chaperone upon hearing #ALAMAT's ABKD.
After bonding a little bit more w/ the kids, we proceeded to New Brighton, d school of our Devcom ladies. We still have books & we decided to donate some to d school's library.
We were welcomed by d school's principal & d Senior High School students. MJ & Xaña shared writing+
experiences & d processes of book production. HUMSS students were especially participative.
"May ara gali market ang mga books nga indi Tagalog o English? So may chance man ako nga Ilonggo ma-publish?" (A sentiment reflecting d Phil literary canon's lack of linguistic diversity)
Students danced #ALAMAT's ABKD. Those who were exceptionally active received books.
Maraming salamat, mga bagong Magiliw ng New Brighton!
That sums up the Magiliw Storytelling Fan project! Thank You @globALAMAT, MJ Tumamac of Aklat Alamid & @xaema_ & NBSPI Devcom Society!
Unta managhan pa ang fan projs & promotions all over d Philippines. Bayanihan ikaw, ako!
U r enriching our Filipino-ness w/ ur world-class talent & u r making us proud w/ ur advocacies.
