Hamiltonians told us loud and clear in our MCR GRIDSII process that they are desperate to welcome roughly 90,000 homes to the existing built up area alone.
The Official Plan we produced, in response to that message, was expressly designed to deliver on that commitment.
The Ford government has changed our Official Plan and instead mandated sprawl that will cost us all.
As @envirodefence has pointed out by FORCING sprawl the government is diverting homes into more expensive forms & places meaning the same investments will produce fewer homes.
In a housing crisis we need to stop squandering construction resources (public and private) on lower-density and oversized sprawl development away from our existing Built Up Area - where it takes far more time, labour and materials to deliver the same number of homes.
So to sum up, #HamOnt WANTS to build housing. In fact because we want to build housing as fast and as efficiently as possible we have rejected the Ford Conservative government's transparently political pledge exercise that distracts from the real work in front of us.
