1/ Alright, #AVFC 🟣🔵 fam. I’ve calmed down (and doing a hit on ESPN right after the game was not easy, let me tell you 😭) Here are my thoughts. They’re basically echoing Emery’s presser but I’ll give my own added notes. On the game itself, I thought it was the perfect example
2/ of how far we have come since UE arrived and how much more work we need to do. Positives are simple really. The two goals showed us that. There is a great sense of momentum when we have the ball and it’s showing. The second goal especially.
Individually: Watkins, Coutinho,
3/ McGinn, Moreno (as the game developed), Kamara and Durán (once again, I mean this boy has to start soon) demonstrated quality going forward. Bailey remains that potent piece of dynamite. He just has to be more disciplined.
But scoring two goals and keeping it 2-2 until
4/…stoppage time against a team that leads the PL table is commendable. The product is there.
Ok. Now. The annoying part. As UE stated, we can’t be this passive - both in mentality and physically - sometimes. There was a lot of carelessness today and it frustrates
5/…the hell out of our manager - and us - cause this issue is really mental. We have to be more imposing. More clinical. This passiveness affects our defensive game. 11 goals in 3 matches is not good. Pure and simple. The good news is that we know the team is better than this.
6/ Ultimately, until he can fully get to work this summer, UE’s biggest task is to translate the good work during the week and put it on the pitch. He needs to give them a sense of consistent confidence.
When Durán urged Villa fans inside the stadium today? That’s what we need.
7/ We need that fighting spirit mixed with consistency. Plenty of points to be earned in the next few weeks and overall, I feel the project is there. Emery knows it. The players know it. It’s time to apply.
UTV 🟣🔵
8/ Oh, also. Jorginho’s shot? That ricocheted off of Dibu? That’s just pure bad fortune. He dove for it the right way + did everything right. It’s just one of those things.
*whispers*
There was also obstruction but whatever. Gunners, overall, deserved the W.
ONWARDS 🟣🔵
9/ This is what I mean when I say how far we’ve come since Unai Emery and his absolute need - even when it’s not working, even when it’s a mess - to play from the back + be confident in movement. Coutinho’s goal was a perfect example of who we can become

#AVFC 🟣🔵’s fanbase has a fantastic, dedicated, good-natured, smart group of content creators. I know because I have joined them on shows plenty of times. It’s a shame that our club helps this kind of toxic nonsense w/ great access instead of nurturing our own.
It’s also the continued frustration of why we don’t have an official Spanish-speaking account. That’s a Villa community desperate for representation 🟣🔵
Overall, I think PL clubs - not just Villa - should do better w/ local, production talent. Focused and obsessed w/ original content, which is totally fine, but they need to do more, way more to create stronger bridges w/ fanbase creators. Overall, it forms a healthier community.
1/ Unai Emery's arrival to #AVFC 🟣🔵 is an incredibly exciting time. I've already talked about his resume and tactics (see below) so this thread takes the proverbial microscope and looks at specific areas where I think he - alongside his staff - will help
2/ For a VERY long time now, Villa have been a team with either no identity or an inconsistent one. Most recently, Dean Smith's situation was a tough one because he was transitioning a Championship squad to the PL, with a heavy, heavy reliance on one player (Jack Grealish)...
3/...while Steven Gerrard's side was a group of talented individuals playing in the dark. Emery's obsessive focus on detail and his need for players to share this obsession will be an immediate wake up call for everyone. Their game's IQ will rise because of it. So straight away,
Finally done with #HouseoftheDragon and I gotta tell ya, there are many things about it that make me like it even more than GoT. Part of it is the single focus on one family, which is very Sopranos like. Other factors such as how the power revolves around two women who
had to fight so much to get what’s theirs. Performances: tremendous. As I’ve said before, all of them kick some serious ass, especially Matt Smith’s Daemon. Steals every scene. I will say, however, that Rhys Ifans’s Otto was marvelous. Emma D’Arcy kicks ass but i gotta say…
…Olivia Cooke. My god. What a performance. Killed it.
Great stuff. Can’t believe we have to wait so long. Filming doesn’t start till summer of next year 😭😭
Copa America kicks off tonight as 🇧🇷 kick off a depleted 🇻🇪 and then 🇨🇴 face 🇪🇨.
Remember, the format is different. Two groups of 5, everyone plays four times and only 1 team of each group doesn’t make knockout [I know, I know]
Obviously, the usual excitement of this tournament runs deep with me, always hoping for the best out of 🇵🇪. In 2019, along with SI, I co-hosted a show for Telemundo and had a BLAST. I love this tournament.
This summer, however, I can’t help but feel so conflicted for obvious reasons and how the continent continues to be hit by the pandemic, notably Brasil, the host nation. To host a tournament, with this sense of negligence or empathy, hurts. A mess from a CONMEBOL perspective.
Since I started this career, one of the biggest things I’ve talked about in regards to the modern game is fatigue, both mental & physical. I truly believe we’re asking too much of these players, demanding incredible things w/ not enough recovery time.
Something needs to change.
In terms of this game restarting: I commend both squads WISHING to play & carry on in honor of Christian, but I have to say that this is a situation where senior officials should have stepped in & say, “No. Listen. We appreciate the way you want to honor your teammate, but no.”
You can see how distraught they are while warming up. I really respect them but mentally, they’re clearly not in the right mindset. Should have been reset for tomorrow morning.
