Apparently, this needs to be said: POEC Commissioner Paul Rouleau is *not* the brother-in-law of Pierre Trudeau's late older sister, Suzette. She was married to a Pierre Rouleau, a Montreal dentist. /1

Also, Paul S. Rouleau is *not* the son of a Paul C. Rouleau, a late Federal Court judge. POEC Paul's father was an Ottawa doctor who died when he, Paul, was 19. /2

POEC's Paul Rouleau did work briefly for then-Liberal prime minister John Turner. (Everyone who worked for him did so briefly, ahem.) Then he went on to a law career and was eventually elevated to the bench. /3

There is *a* Paul Rouleau who has donated money to the Liberal Party of Canada and a Liberal riding association in Niagara. But there's no evidence this donor -- who lives in Port Colborne, Ont. -- is the POEC commissioner. /4

The most recent of those donations are from Dec. 2022, when Rouleau was writing his report, so it's either a huge lapse of judgment or not the same Paul Rouleau. /5

And the donor from Port Colborne lives in a postal code with modest homes that doesn't seem like a place a judge on the Ontario Court of Appeal would reside. But maybe? Fin. 6/6

Also: the originating source of this appears to be a tweet from December, that mistakenly claims POEC's Paul Rouleau is the son of Ubald Rouleau, who was reeve of Cornwall, Ont.:

(I should have noted above: Pierre Rouleau, husband of Suzette Trudeau, had a sister and only one brother named Francois. That is, he didn't have a brother named Paul.)

And for further clarity, POEC's commissioner Paul Rouleau is the son of Dr. Roger Rouleau, late of Ottawa. His siblings are Jean, Guy and Suzanne.
