Fascinating exchange with #NHLJets coach Rick Bowness down here at Madison Square Garden about player compete level, accountability.

Here it is, in the following thread.

Bowness: "I've got to do a better job getting these guys working harder for 60 minutes."

1/?
Me: Fair enough, but how do you as a coach make players to work harder? Shouldn't that be on them?

Bowness: "Well I'm going to have to start sitting some guys. I'll have to do that. And then it's their fault. It's not the coach picking on them."

2/?
Bowness, continuing: "We talked about that this morning. If you're not going to do what we need you to do as hard as we need you to do it, then it's your decision. And if we have to start taking some ice time away then that's the only thing we have."

3/?
Bowness, continuing: "You hate to do it on back-to-back, but if it comes to that, it's their fault. It won't be mine."

Quite the statement from the #NHLJets clearly frustrated head coach here in New York.

Much more to come in @WinnipegNews.

Greetings from Newark. Interesting beginning to #NHLJets practice. Only a small group of players on ice to start. And head coach Rick Bowness pulled aside Nikolaj Ehlers, Nate Schmidt and then Mark Scheifele for one-on-one chats. #wfp ImageImageImageImage
#NHLJets starting with PP work.

First group is Mark Scheifele, Blake Wheeler, Cole Perfetti, Josh Morrissey and Nate Schmidt.

Second group is Kyle Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Kevin Stenlund and Neal Pionk.

So Dubois, Connor flip with Schmidt, Perfetti.

We're underway from Bell MTS Place, as the 23-11-7 #NHLJets take on the 10-21-9 Buffalo Sabres. Hellebuyck vs Johnson is your goalie match-up. #wfp
Unlike last night's Toronto-San Jose game, I can confirm no beards have been pulled or torn so far in the opening minute of tonight's contest.
Buffalo gets the first power play, as Joel Armia flagged for hooking 4:20 into the 1st period.
