Roscosmos shared a statement about the situation with leaks in #SoyuzMS22 and #ProgressMS21, the planned activities, and about the affection of this situation on the future crewed flights: roscosmos.ru/38973/. I made a quick summary for you, as usual. ⤵️
1. About the leak in #SoyuzMS22: it was caused by a micrometeorite of the Geminids. The version of the manufacturing defect was carefully considered and didn’t find confirmation.
2. According to the results of the ground experiment, the possibility of a radiator hit by space debris is considered unlikely, taking into account the direction of movement and the particle's speed, as well as the absence of possible candidates in space debris catalogs.
3. The external thermal control system of Soyuz and Progress ships will not be modernized, because it will require a lot of funds and time, and will lead to an increase in the mass of the ship. However, this case will be taken into account by developing of new crewed spacecrafts.
4. Considering the fact that the State Commission didn’t recommend to use Soyuz MS-22 for the landing of the crew, Soyuz MS-23 was prepared to fly to the station in an automatic mode. There was an idea to launch it with one cosmonaut, but the modification would take too long.
5. #SoyuzMS22 will be landed in automatic mode in March 2023.
6. Progress MS-22 was launched earlier than Soyuz MS-23, because a new ground-based control system equipment was installed on Pad 31 at the end of 2022. It was necessary to check it on a cargo ship before launching a crewed one from this pad.
7. Sergei Prokopiev, Dmitry Petelin and Francisco Rubio will return to Earth on #SoyuzMS23 in September 2023. Oleg Kononenko, Nikolai Chub and Loral O’Hara will fly to the ISS the same month on Soyuz MS-24. The Belarusian cosmonaut will fly in 2024.
That’s all, folks, thanks for reading!

A big update on the incident with #SoyuzMS22 appeared on the Roscosmos website: roscosmos.ru/38641/.
Quick summary in the thread below. ⤵️
1. According to preliminary information, the damage could have been caused by the micrometeoroid or space debris hit into the external cooler radiator located on the service module of the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft.
2. There is currently no need for an emergency evacuation.

Yuri Borisov, the head of #Roscosmos, visited the Space Research Institute and talked about the priorities of the Russian space industry. The full text is here: roscosmos.ru/38328/, and here's my usual quick summary. ⤵️ Image
Since it's the 65th anniversary of the Sputnik launch, and the event took place at IKI RAN, there was a lot of talks about the scientific space program, which is rare these days.
1. Space research is expensive. Russia needs to set priorities and choose the projects that can bring the results in the near future, and that we can handle today, including in terms of provided funding.

1/x. Sergei Pozdnyakov, general director of NPP Zvezda, the manufacturer of Russian spacesuits and shock-absorbing seats, gave an interview to TASS and shared some information about the plans for new generation of spacesuits. Here’s the quick summary for you. ⤵️
2/х. The new Sokol-M spacesuit as well as the Cheget shock-absorbing seat are designed specifically for #Oryol spacecraft and cannot be used in Soyuz-MS due to the difference in the life support system. The flight models will be ready when Oryol is ready to fly.
3/x. Another work in progress is the spacesuit to walk on the lunar surface. They have a concert and currently prepare a model for ergonomics tests. The lunar spacesuit will be modular, which allows to replace a module instead of sending the whole suite to Earth for repairs.

Yesterday #Roscosmos published a big interview of Vladimir Soloviev, the general designer of RSC Energia and the flight director of the Russian segment of the ISS. He talked a lot about the planned ROSS station. Here’s a quick summary for you. roscosmos.ru/38020
At the first phase, #ROSS will be placed on a solar-synchronous orbit with an altitude of 334 km and inclination of 96.8°. Later it will be changed to 372 km and 96.9°. This will allow to observe most of the territory of Russia (and not only Russia, as Soloviev noticed).
This orbit will also allow to conduct the study of both Earth poles with optical, infrared, ultraviolet, radio and other detectors, and will allow to track the movement of various objects in the areas of the poles, which is an important scientific experiment.

Let’s talk about Rogozin’s words about #eROSITA telescope which is a part of #SpektrRG space observatory and was put into safe mode on February 26. They were understood by the space community as an intention to reactivate it without the permission of a German side. (A thread) ⤵️
As usual, Rogozin haven’t said that directly. Here is the quote: “Despite Germany's demand to turn off one of the two telescopes on the Spektr-RG, Russian specialists insist on continuing its work. In the near future, Roscosmos will make appropriate decisions.” ⤵️
Literally, it can be any decision: either to turn it on forcibly, or to start negotiations with the German side. Or even do nothing, which is in my opinion the most possible scenario. ⤵️

Now, seriously about the suits. Usually, every crew picks their own color scheme long before the flight. Mostly, they are white, dark or light blue. The red suite of Yulia Peresild was unique because as an actress she liked to look pretty. I haven't seem a yellow fabric before...
...but it doesn't mean there is no such fabric at the warehouse. And probably they picked it as an homage to the colors of their university. Or they just like sun and sky colors - why not. Question is that there is not much room in the Soyuz, and you can't...
...just unpack everything to search for another clothes, if you found out your arriving costume is in questionable colors. But I don't know if it was possible to repack the clothes three weeks before the flight and leave t-shirts and trousers of a neutral color in touch.
