/ This is The Step. It was a busy and lively local bar, café and restaurant from 2011 to 2020. Lots of us made friends and had lovely nights out there, enjoying fab cocktails and food. It was described as one of the hearts of the community.
/ In 2020, the owners moved away and it was closed. Everyone was gutted. It was bought by developers who tried to turn it into tiny flats, but locals objected strongly to the planning applications and they gave up on their plans. Sadly by this point the building was gutted too.
/ But all is not lost! We now have a chance to open it again. We plan to buy the building, renovate it and bring in a tenant who will create a space with community spirit at its heart. We already have several interested tenants lined up.
/ We have been awarded £250k in govt funding. The rest is up to us! We're raising a further £250k to match this in the form of #communityshares. Our deadline is 19 March. We have strong support already but need your help to reach our goal.
/ Community shares allow locals to come together and invest in their community. Each shareholder has a single vote, no matter the size of investment. And shareholders can ask to withdraw their money later on, once the society has built up a surplus.
