Zakia Jafri is no more - But her story is incomplete without Ehsan.
Who was Ehsan? Not just a politician but a living example of shared existence.

A Freedom Fighter, a writer & the successor of Indulal Yagnik and his school of thought who always stood for the downtrodden. 🧵1/14

While still at RC High School in Ahmedabad, Ehsan published a magazine in URDU & joined the Freedom Movement. Influenced by communism was arrested in 1949 for his 'calls for revolution'.

Upon his release, he became the Gen Secy of the Progressive Editors Union. 2/14

Simultaneously he completed his Law Degree & started practicing as a Lawyer in Ahmedabad.

In 1969, when a communal riot ravaged the city, his house was burned down. He & his family took shelter in relief camp. But his belief in the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb remained undeterred. 3/14

“As I left the room the RSS volunteers entered and laughter broke out again.” Gopal Mukund Huddar recounted this incident in yr 1979 article "Illustrated Weekly of India".

Huddar was serving emissary of Netaji Subhash was sent to Hedgewar to fix a meeting between the two. 🧵1/12

Netaji after resigning as the Cong Pres in April 1939 wanted a fresh movement against the British.

So He called Huddar in his Bombay office & told him to arrange a meeting between him & Hedgewar.
Huddar a former RSS & the 1st sarkaryavah - Gen Secy & later became a leftist. 2/12

With Netaji's msg on 7 July 1939 Huddar met Hedgewar who was then staying in a mansion of one his rich follower, Deolali Nasik.

Huddar wrote Doctorsaheb (Hedgewar) was joking & laughing with some youngsters of the RSS, after Huddar's request those volunteers left the room. 3/12

Meanwhile 07/10/23 California’s Governor vetoed a bill banning caste discrimination after pressure from Hindutva groups.

After the death of a worker Mukesh Kumar FBI raided the Swaminarayan Temple, the largest Temple in the US.

In May 2021 a lawsuit was also filed in the US Dist Court of human trafficking & wage law against Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha(BAPS). 2/18

However Oct 7th 2023 California’s governor vetoed (refused) a bill banning caste discrimination after influentials with direct links to Hindutva groups like OFBJP & the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America pressured him to do so by threatening him to lose donors & voters. 3/18

Apology? He will not.

On 25/04/2010 CM of Guj Modi while releasing book "Samajik Samrasata" allegedly said that the Dalits are like mentally retarded. (Mand buddhi).

The then Chairman National Commission of Scheduled Caste Buta Singh & other members criticised the remark. 1/9

This matter reached Rajyasabha Also. However, PM Modi never expressed apology for this.

While race is physical caste is cultural. So Caste discrimination is also deeply rooted in Gujarat's Culture.
However, in 2008 PM Modi released a book named 'Karmayogi'. 2/9

In Nov 2007 Modiji published a book 'Karmayog' where he termed Valmiki's caste-based vocation of others' filth, excreta as an "Experience in Spirituality".

In India manual scavenging was banned in 2013 still today people die in sewers, certainly not a Spiritual Experience. 3/9

Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal (70yrs) on a hunger strike at the Khanauri border between Punjab & Haryana last 21 Days is in critical condition. He is also a cancer patient.

Yesterday doctors recommended his immediate hospitalisation but he refused. 1/4

His demand - Centre to accept the agitating farmers’ demands, including a legal guarantee on MSP of crops.

Farmers are on protest since Feb but the Center has refused to any talk. Day before yesterday tear gas, water canons were used left a dozen injured & Hospitalised. 2/4

Congress MP @manickamtagore has moved adjournment motion seeking discussion on the ongoing hunger strike by farmer leader Shri Jagjit Singh Dallewal.

The SC 4 days ago asked the Punjab & Central govt to persuade him to break his fast unto death without using force. 3/4
