In '98 or' 99, @officialABAT with Kofo Akerele-Bucknor came to Omodigbo/Palm Avenue junction to campaign for the gubernatorial election. As a member of the Youth Wing of then AD, others and myself provided a guard of honour for his motorcade. As they set out leave, right in front
of New State High School, I ran alongside his car with him waving down at people from the open roof and he grabbed his hand, "After this, Aso Rock!" I shouted twice. Through the years, I dogged his political path all the way to the APC. When he finally decided to run. I was
against him as I had, and still do, a preference for PYO, but Fate had sealed it. He beat my preferred handily and I remember asking someone beside me on the night of the primaries if God heard my words to BAT back then and sanctioned them.
I accepted the result and got back in
line. Here we are today. Those words I pronounced as a young man are getting fulfilled. BAT got a ticket for the senate in 2007 and gave it to GOS. He never ran for office until this moment. He left as a governor and "after this Aso Rock."
We're all different demographically, politically and ethnically, but whoever we support, I trust I can assume that we all just want a better Nigeria. Whatever happens from here on, this is the time to bury the hate, insults and bitterness. Tomorrow we vote. Please, shun violence.
Go out and exercise your franchise understanding that not everyone agrees with you and there are a million and one reasons why your favourite candidate may or may not win. Commit to supporting the winner knowing that be you as smart as Solomon, the majority is wiser still.
Everyone just wants a government and country that works for them. Our choices are different, but our desire is singular. You cannot hate your government and claim to love your country, neither can your candidate be the ONLY good one. May God bless you and may He bless Nigeria.
