here are two identical bell curves, separated by one standard deviation
we talk a lot around here about "failure to distinguish the general from the particular", but it goes both ways
normal people live here
here, the distributions are only weakly predictive - a lot can happen! what can you say!
if you are normal, your irl experience has taught you that it's not just immoral but *dumb* to generalize too strongly here, where you live
& you are correct
if you are +1SD, you live here
you still see a lot of blue here, which tantalizes - clearly blue can do well in this world, the blue you meet seems pretty normal, maybe we are Not So Different
a little harder to defend, but still a good way to live, if you live here
if you're exceptional, though, you live here, & the differences are much harder to ignore
this is also where almost all important things happen
lots of other newsworthy things happen here, mostly bad/sad things
if anyone has visited a place like this, you can't help wanting it to be different, you're desperate for a solution - it's like hell
It's very, very stupid not to generalize here, & when people refuse to it's very frustrating
these places are also where viral social media phenomena happen, so if you live on this segment of the curve & see this all day long, social media is an intensely validating place to be
is that a good thing? idk
when the normie tells you to touch grass, he is inviting you to meditate on this

Missing some Tweet in this thread? You can try to
force a refresh
Some are asking why this is so; others asking why we can't just Let People Enjoy Things
You can answer both these questions with another question: "In an economy captured by rentiers, what can young people offer old incumbents in exchange for access?"
Attractive young women present a similar problem (& you see their outsized influence in ConInc for similar reasons) - but unlike gays, they don't become a source of sexual *demand* once they reach the top of the hierarchy
For most of human history, if you heard of something really bad happening, you should probably deal with it because it was probably very close by
The problem is that, from a God's eye view, there are really bad things happening everywhere all the time
The power of global communications networks to aggregate & disseminate global-scale (& basically factual) atrocity propaganda broke a lot of people's brains - John Brown being just the most extreme case
The problem is that no society can survive this kind of scrutiny, so there is endless (& emotionally comprehensible) will to tear it all down to the last brick in the pursuit of justice
For instance, if you wanted to subject "parenting" to this kind of scrutiny there's absolutely no way it would survive it - the stories of abuse are bloodcurdling & you could stack them to the moon
Eventually you have to acknowledge that power & freedom are inseparable, the power to do good implies the power to do evil, & the only universal equality these people have ever achieved is the universal equality of the mass grave
The Marxist critique of society (of which John Brown was a spiritual forefather) is Luciferian - man's agency is a curse, he is unworthy of it, it must be taken from him
Everyone equal under me
But if you're exposed to the God's eye view (as humanity now is, for the first time), the critique is newly seductive
Maybe consciousness is a curse, maybe life is a continual scene of horror
Maybe God is wrong to let this go on - maybe I could do better, or make an end
Literally every day people see cases where it's 100% obvious what needs to happen but instead we have to wait 6 mo or a year or 25 years to come to that obvious conclusion (best case)
Worst case, we find one of a million technicalities that demand we avoid the obvious conclusion
In the meantime families suffer for decades while the state spends billions of taxpayer $$ Respecting the Process
Changing this system would mean embracing a new & uncertain set of tradeoffs, but the growing mood is that the status quo is untenable & it's worth shaking the dice
You may have noticed that the violent reaction is dominated by boomers & trans
Common factor is a need to retroactively maintain a personal narrative - "Temporal Bioleninism"
Liberal boomers burned down millennia of culture, wealth, & wisdom, sold their inheritance to foreigners, abandoned their families - & all of that was justified by the postwar progressive political project
If that project is repudiated by their grandchildren - if they find themselves, ironically, "on the wrong side of history" - then it all came to nothing
It would mean that, actually, they were just assholes - their ideology was always a self-serving joke, the story of their lives is pure waste & loss & tragedy, they are already in hell
& since the book of their lives is written, & there's nothing they can do about it, they'll do pretty much anything that lets them believe a different story about themselves
Likewise, these guys are watching American society give up on the ideological project that convinced them to cut off their dicks & wreck their endocrine systems with exogenous hormones
Can't be undone - like the boomers their only hope is to change what it means, in retrospect
Temporal bioleninism is radicalization by one's position in time
These aren't mutant dregs glomming on to Marxism as their only plausible path to status
they might have been other things - but now radical Marxism is the only tolerable mode of understanding their past & present
down syndrome is a random error and usually renders the person infertile, it's not heritable & cannot be "eliminated" in any permanent way except by continuously killing the kids who get it
