Are you a South African and looking to retire in Thailand

Here are my costs over the last 5 years, between 2018 - 2022

[ THREAD ] ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ
1/ Exchange Rates

Current rates:

USD/THB = 35.34
ZAR/THB= 1.90

Since 29 Dec 2017,

> The ZAR has depreciated 26% against the Thai Baht

> The Thai baht depreciated 9.84% against the dollar

> The ZAR depreciated 33% against the dollar

Whyโ€™s this important ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ
1.1/

In ZAR terms,
retiring in another country, such as Thailand, is becoming more expensive

Mainly because of rapid currency depreciation relative to the Thai Baht and the USD

Ultimately,
The dollar has remained king

There are TWO ways a company can raise capital to fund growth, but it can also open you up to dilution.

Letโ€™s learn ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ Image
1/ Glossary

Before we begin the thread,
we need to define these:

1. Debt

Money + interest owed to a creditor(s)

2. Equity

Refers to ownership in a company, having equity gives you a claim on a businessโ€™s profits and assets

3. Dilution

Is a reduction in your ownership %
2/ Introduction

For you to understand those definitions fully, you MUST familiarize yourself with the

No one is telling you this,

You are in Danger, and your Money isnโ€™t Safe in the Bank.

๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ
1/

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB), has a subsidiary named

Corporation for Deposit Insurance, or (CODI) for short.

SARB and CODI are establishing a Deposit Insurance Scheme (DIS) for South Africa

What does this mean?
2/ Deposit Insurance Scheme

Think of (DIS) as a Safety Net,

it protects depositors (you) against the loss of your covered deposits with a respective bank.

If that bank fails, then your money is insured. The aim of the DIS is to protect those that are most vulnerable.
