As the web3 ecosystem continues to gain momentum, there’s an opportunity for web3 security to be proactive and prevention-focused.
With that said, I’m excited to share @cbventure’s POV on the web3 security stack 🧵
2/ At @cbventures, we believe that web3 presents a novel attack surface that requires new security solutions to prevent and mitigate security threats
3/ The most common web3 security attack surfaces can be categorized into four layers: infrastructure, smart contract language, protocol logic, and ecosystem
4/ The evolving web3 security stack, layer by layer, consists of 👇🏾
5/ Infrastructure primitives for securely connecting users/apps to blockchains and ensuring operational integrity
6/ Security testing tools to augment or automate formal audits and mitigate vulnerabilities in the smart contract code and/or protocol logic
7/ Ecosystem tools for managing protocol risk, monitoring security threats in real-time and conducting forensic crime investigations
8/ While there’s no silver bullet to eliminating all potential threats in web3, we expect the industry’s security posture to drastically improve over time as the nascent, yet evolving web3 security stack matures
9/ Overall, we believe that investing in these technologies and the teams building them will help to ensure the security and integrity of the web3 ecosystem while supporting its continued growth

Super excited to share @Coinbase Venture’s POV on the Web3 Developer Stack.
Our thesis: As Web3 gains momentum, there’s an opportunity to invest in more robust developer tools and infrastructure that will unlock the next stage of Web3 innovation and adoption 🧵
1/ This landscape is not mutually exclusive nor completely exhaustive. Rather, it’s a framework for thinking about the Web3 developer stack as it continues to evolve
2/ @Coinbase Ventures defines the Web3 Developer Stack as a nascent ecosystem of promising companies that empower developers with infrastructure and tooling to build on top of crypto network primitives
Last week, @coinbase Ventures published our Q2 investment memo.
One key theme: the @solana ecosystem continues to show impressive momentum and developer traction.👇🏾
1/ Primer: @solana is a Layer 1 blockchain that aims to deliver orders-of-magnitude scalability and support smart contracts without sacrificing decentralization and security.
2/ @solana smart contracts are coded in Rust, an LLVM-compatible language that was recently identified by @SlashDataHQ as the fastest growing programming language community.
