Please read Ben Kentish’s tweets, and then read my short thread 🚨 🧵. I run @EveryDoctorUK, and at the start of the pandemic we ran a campaign called #ProtectNHSworkers. Over 100 MPs came on-board, and we lobbied for changes to help frontline workers…
…for context, many healthcare workers were inadequately protected, and many were dying. We were so desperate for change that we projected this onto St Thomas’ Hospital (opposite Parliament) on the night 29th April 2020 with the help of an incredible artist👇… ImageImage

1. PFI debt is bad for the NHS.
2. Successive governments entered into projects with private companies to keep the spending off the public books.
3. We’re paying for it now, and will continue to until ~2050🚨

4. The government should pay off the debt and wipe the slate clean, but they’re not doing that.

Hello everyone!
As many of you know, we have been building a map of NHS privatisation and outsourcing, to show the extent of the private infiltration into our NHS.

We will be launching some info about PFI hospitals shortly.

We are a non-party political org. The PFI projects..
…began under John Major’s leadership but expanded massively under Labour. New projects were (finally) stopped in 2018. In short, PFI has been terrible for the NHS. They involved new hospitals being built for the NHS but funded by private finance. The NHS then carried (+still…
…carries in many places) staggering amounts of debt to the private companies. The public funds enormous debt repayments every single year, and will do until ~2050. In some places, the debt repayments are more than double the total annual cost of an NHS Trusts’s medicine bill🚨..
