What is ADR ?

For the uninitiated, Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) was established in 1999 as an NGO to bring transparency and accountability in the electoral system of India.

It is founded by a group of professors of IIM, Ahmedabad.

An analysis of 2021 balance sheet of ADR shows it is funded prominently by three organizations namely The Omidyar Network, Thakur Foundation and Ford Foundation.

These organisations are infamously known for meddling with internal politics of nations.

1⃣The Omidyar Network

Founded by Pierre Omidyar, it funds regime-change networks around the world.

It's offshoots includes Flourish Ventures, Omidyar Network India, Spero Ventures, Imaginable Futures, Democracy Fund and Luminate.

The Omidyar Network, through its funding, has created a large network to serve its interest.

For e.g. in 2017, it invested $4.5 million to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, the organization behind the reveal of the Panama Papers

Pierre Omidyar has partnered closely with many of the U.S.-funded outfits that fulfill the role the CIA used to play during the Cold War in backing opposition media and civil society in countries targeted for regime change.

Omidyar group, Army Special Forces and Council on Foreign Relations are company's other clients

This demonstrates Omidyar's proximity to shady Govt related groups.

The episode even led to Philippines severing relations with USA while Maria was awarded Nobel Peace Prize.

The saga clearly demonstrates Omidyar's proximity to US Government.

Luminate, one of the organization of The Omidyar Group has provided funds amounting to almost $2.5 million to Freedom Voice Network.

Freedom Voice Network along with Reporters Without Borders (RSF) launched Forbidden Stories.

It is the second major grants provider to ADR. It is founded by Dinesh Thakur and based out of US.

The source of money of Thakur Foundation is dubious as they haven’t disclosed anything on their website.

It has funded various articles by The Wire, Alt News, Scroll & Newslaundry members of the DIGIPUB India Network.

Stories funded present a negative image of India towards handling of the Covid.

It is a major asset provider to ADR. It is infamously known for meddling with internal politics of nations during cold war era.

It has funded the Forbidden Stories.

Recently report on political funding received by various political parties in year 2021-22 was published by ADR.

Though factually correct its timing raises eyebrows as the data relates to the year 2021-22 which was already in public domain since November 2022.
