💫 WE’RE LIVE 💫

Today, Figure emerges from stealth.

We’re building autonomous humanoid robots.

One robot for every human on the planet.

Here's what the future will look like:
As a kid, I loved science fiction.

It let me dream of a better future.

The last 20 years I've been building technology companies to build a better future for humanity.

Today we're unveiling the most important technology for the future of humankind.

Advanced AI meets Robotics.
THE PROBLEM

Our labor force is shrinking.

As a result of the aging population, the labor supply is shrinking.

Predictions indicate 85 million job shortages by 2030.

If we want growth, we need more productivity - and this means more automation.
Our world is designed for the human form:

→ Arms and hands allow us to open doors and use tools.

→ Legs allow us to move efficiently, climb stairs, lift boxes, and more.

For 100 years, robots that can do human-like tasks have been unattainable

The robotics "holy grail".
THE SOLUTION

Figure believes robots built for a human environment will maximize our impact on labor shortages & improve lives.

Our robot resembles the human body - two legs, two arms, hands, and screen for a face.

= The universal interface in the physical world.
FIGURE'S VISION:

A future where humanoid robots work alongside us on a global scale.
WHY NOW FOR HUMANOID ROBOTS?

The last 10yrs have seen enormous advances in:

→ Compute & GPU

→ Energy & Power Density (Batteries, Motors, Power Electronics)

→ Bipedal Locomotion Control

→ Autonomy (Perception, Manipulation, SLAM, Prediction)

We believe now is the time.
COMPANY OVERVIEW:

→ Founded in 2022, Figure is developing a general purpose humanoid robot.

→ Physical Labor is largest market on the planet = 50% of GDP (~$40T/yr)

→ Team has >100 years of AI & Humanoid experience.

→ Business model optimized for near-term revenue.
FIGURE 01 ROBOT:

Figure 01 was designed to help automate physical labor.

→ Fully electromechanical (batteries/motors).

→ Designed to work safely alongside humans.

→ Hardware is capable of doing what humans can.
CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM

→ Figure is currently 42 people.

→ Focus is on AI, Controls, Software, Electrical, Mechanical.

→ The team is ex-Boston Dynamics, IHMC, Tesla, Apple SPG, Cruise, GoogleX.

I believe we have the #1 Humanoid team by a mile.
MISSION, VISION, VALUES

The culture we build will make or break our future.

MISSION:
Expand human capabilities through advanced AI.

VISION:
Deploy autonomous humanoid robots on a global scale to solve challenges within the labor economy.
LONG-TERM ROADMAP

Humanoids will revolutionize a variety of industries:

→ Corp labor roles
→ Caring for the elderly
→ Individuals in the home
→ Building new worlds in space

Figure's early applications will be in corp roles where the labor shortages are the most severe.
I want to invite everyone to follow along and to give feedback.

We have the potential to alter the course of history and fundamentally improve millions of lives.

If I was 21 again and just starting my career...

Here's what I'd tell myself (knowing what I know now):
Plot out the milestones you want to hit

What gets written gets measured.

What gets measured gets done.

If you plot out exactly what you want to accomplish, it's 100x easier to make it happen.

The opposite is also true.
Apply to jobs through connecting, not resumes

Resumes are an easy way to get ignored.

If you really want an opportunity, go against the grain.

→ Build a personalized website for the role
→ Share what you'd do proactively
→ Create a series of videos

Apply outside the box.

If you want to be a great CEO, open this:
Context:

→ I've been building companies for 20 yrs
→ I built Vettery and sold it for over $100M
→ I founded Archer and took it public at $2.7B

I've seen a lot. I've made mistakes.

Here are 11 insights to help you be a top 1% CEO:
Be hands on

In the very beginning, you need to manage every single detail.

You should describe yourself in one word: scrappy.

You have to play all these roles (and well):

→ Sales
→ Finance
→ Strategy
→ Marketing
→ Operations
→ Project Manager
→ Product Manager

I've raised $1B in my tech career.

10 years of funding tips in 5 minutes:
VC's Lead or Follow-On.

Lead investors are the first money in.

They set the:

→ $$$ Size
→ Valuation
→ Legal "Term Sheet"

Follow-on investors only come in after a term sheet.

When looking to raise, first focus ONLY on lead investors first.
Fundraising = Sales Funnel

You have to build a “fundraising machine”.

This is exactly what you do in a Sales process:

→ Qualify the Leads
→ Reach out process (referral or cold email)
→ Demo (the pitch)
→ Convert down the funnel

Interesting data point from Amazon's CEO after internally reviewing their Remote vs. In-Office policy.

Amazon has 1.5M employees; the last 3 years has been a mix of in-person and remote.

Here are their key findings:
1/ "It’s easier to learn, model, practice, and strengthen our culture when we’re in the office together most of the time and surrounded by our colleagues"
2/ "Collaborating and inventing is easier and more effective when we’re in person."
