EXCLUSIVE $TSLA 🧵: I spoke with Tom Zhu after the #InvestorDay presentation and he shared key information that is not known until now.
I’m convinced he will be @Tesla’s next CEO after @elonmusk. He’s charismatic, succinct, incredibly intelligent and acts with a great sense of… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
⁃The Gen 3 platform will be built in Mexico first, then they will copy & paste production to other Giga Factories. 2/
⁃The first Gen 3 vehicle will roll off the production line in 18-24 months!
⁃I asked if the Gen 3 will be painted or stainless steel he smirked and said “paint is expensive” 😏.
⁃Giga Mexico will be built AT THE SAME TIME AS ANOTHER GIGA! 4/
⁃All Giga Factory architecture, design, and construction is done in-house. 5/
⁃Shanghai ramped faster than Austin/Berlin because Shanghai copied Fremont’s production and the Austin/Berlin had to figure out the structural pack 6/
⁃The benchmark for rolling Model Y’s off the production line is 45s. Current times: China 37s, Berlin 55s, Austin 75s. 7/
⁃Midnight Cherry Red and Quicksilver paint cannot be produced in Austin’s paint shop and there are no plans to change that 8/
⁃We will see more proactive communication soon. Tesla now has country specific Twitter handles and comms teams in Asia, they will roll out this strategy to Europe/North America 9/
⁃Tesla China is actively working with local Chinese regulators to approve use of FSD in China (same policy for all manufacturers, not just tesla) 10/
- I also have UNBELIEVABLE news about the CyberTruck that I heard from @Tesla execs. Follow me if you’re into that kind of thing as I’ll share the info soon. 11/
As one of the lucky 50 retail $TSLA shareholders who attended #InvestorDay, I was able to take lots of pictures of the event. You can check them out here: 12/
PLUS more details from @larsmoravy and @woodhaus2:
- There are no plans to make a Cybercab with a steering wheel and pedals (demand for the Robotsxi version will essentially be unlimited).
- Production will start first in Texas and then move to other factories.
- the Cybertruck has many overlapping parts from the Tesla Model 3 and Y
- even the Robovan has a surprising number of parts from other Tesla models.
- All Teslas on the road running hardware 3 or 4 will be able to function as robotaxis without needing any hardware retrofitting.
- A guy who was 5’7” was able to lay flat in the frunk.
- no ramp built into the tailgate
- suspension more comfortable than an S/X
- turning radius is amazing
- feels more luxurious than an S/X
- the Cybertruck delivery event has been scheduled, but not publicly announced yet.
Just a few years ago, there were only two Superchargers between Seattle and Spokane, now… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Our refresh @Tesla Model X could have made the almost 400 mile trip easily with one stop, but with two young kids, we opted to make two supercharger stops each way.
As usual, there were no waits to charge (unlike that massive line for gasoline at Costco in Coeur d’Alene).
2/
Our favorite @TeslaCharging stop was this one at Liberty Lake, WA Sales and Service Center.
Travelers had access to the waiting room (w/🫖 & ☕️), bathrooms, and the friendly staff even offered to let us test drive a new Tesla.
I learned a ton of previously unknown info on the #CyberTruck during the executive Meet & Greet before and after #investorDay.

I know trucks! I’ve owned 6 F-150s including a handful of Raptors. I worked at a Ford Dealership through college. I drive my trucks in the snow, on gravel and dirt roads, I tow boats and trailers. So I compare the CyberTruck to the F-150, America’s best selling vehicle.
